40 Days For Life: DAY 36: Abortion Pill Reversal

The most iconic scene of the Unplanned movie depicts Abby Johnson’s pill-induced abortion. Two grisly, heart-wrenching minutes earned the film an “R” rating from the MPAA…but also became the best educational tool pro-lifers have for illustrating the horror of chemical abortions. Fortunately, the abortion pill reversal protocol (APR) has been shown to save about two thirds of babies when moms change their minds and pursue treatment after taking the first abortion pill. Nobody is better positioned than 40 Days for Life vigil participants to inform women who have taken the abortion pill that it might not be too late choose life. “Mom with twins seeking APR–please pray!!” read a short, desperate email from Amber, the 40 Days for Life leader in Columbus, Georgia.

Amber helped administer the reversal process right away and scheduled the mother for an ultrasound the next day. Unfortunately, one baby succumbed to the abortion pill–but the other baby had a heartbeat! Meanwhile, Rich confirmed that a patient in Sarasota, Florida opted to reverse her chemical abortion, and an ultrasound confirmed a strong heartbeat. And when a woman in Norman, Oklahoma opted to reverse her chemical abortion, 40 Days for Life participants gave her $595 to refund the money the mom spent on abortion pills.

Seaside, California Matthew in Seaside said that during previous campaigns, his team had been confronted by a homeless man who struggles with addiction. At times, vigil participants even needed to call the police. But the man recently approached Matthew with a new tone. “He walked up to me peacefully and let me know he had just been released from a 2.5 month stay in jail,” Matthew reported. “He expressed sorrow for how he treated us in the past. He conversed and prayed with us for some time.” The interaction was a microcosm of the community’s response to the vigil in Seaside. While California is an abortion-friendly state, Matthew said, “In my personal experience on the sidewalk, the majority of citizens in the community support our efforts.”

Waco, Texas Back in March, Texas suspended abortions as non-essential procedures. “When abortions started back up in Texas, the abortion doctor never came back,” reported Aine, the leader in Waco. Planned Parenthood has remained open, referring abortion-minded women to Austin, Dallas, and Fort Worth, but a vigil participant was able to redirect an expectant mother to a local pregnancy center to choose life for her baby!
