Stemberger Responds to the Boy Scouts of America’s Decision to Allow Transgendered Boys (Girls) to Enroll in Scouting Programs

Contact: Amber Kelly, 850-567-8143, AmberK@FLfamily.org
ORLANDO, Jan. 31, 2017 /Christian Newswire/ — John Stemberger, founder of On My Honor, Chairman of the Board of Trail Life USA, and President of the Florida Family Policy Council released the following statement in light of the Boy Scouts of America’s announcement that they would be allowing transgender boys (biological girls who want to become boys) to enroll in scouting programs:
“This is a profoundly sad but inevitable decision on the part of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). The ‘key three’ leadership of the BSA assured its membership less than four years ago when they voted to allow openly gay boys in the program that this would never happen. Now untold thousands of boys in Scouting will be directly exposed to the serious psychological confusion that is characterized by those claiming to be transgender. As a society, we should have great compassion for children suffering from gender dysphoria while getting them proper counseling and professional help. Instead, the BSA is encouraging and facilitating a recognized mental disorder that has far reaching consequences to the health and safety of children. Recently, the American College of Pediatricians released a formal position paper entitled ‘Gender Identity Harms Children’ urging those working with children ‘to reject all policies that condition children to accept as normal a life of chemical and surgical impersonation of the opposite sex.’
“Further, knowing that boys and biological girls will be showering, dressing and camping in tents together create a clear child protection issue which is being ignored. It’s simply stunning that a leading youth organization which parents entrust the protection of their children with has opted to again appease political activists rather than follow clear, common-sense best practices for child protection.
“In light of this decision, parents across America are even more grateful for Trail Life USA, the distinctly Christian scouting organization for boys and young men, which focuses on adventure, character, and leadership in its 700 troops in 48 states across the country. Trail Life CEO Mark Hancock responded to the decision by saying, ‘Trail Life USA is saddened to see this decision by the BSA. We assure our members and chartering organizations that we are committed to the timeless Biblical values affirmed in our Statement of Faith and Values.'”

Dear Family of Mary!

“Dear children! Today I am calling you to pray for peace: peace in human hearts, peace in the families and peace in the world. Satan is strong and wants to turn all of you against God, and to return you to everything that is human, and to destroy in the heart all feelings towards God and the things of God. You, little children, pray and fight against materialism, modernism and egoism, which the world offers to you. Little children, you decide for holiness and I, with my Son Jesus, intercede for you. Thank you for having responded to my call.” (January 25, 2017)

We just scratched the surface about Modernism. But next we have Materialism. We all can imagine Materialism to be the love of stuff, the stuff we own and use, collect and hoard. Material things can make us happy, feel safe, feed our egos, but not for long. And living for such things is not really part of the road to holiness. Our Lady wants us to have simple and humble lives so as to be free to love God.  Living for the material is not worthy of the human spirit.

But there is also a philosophical understanding of Materialism that goes much deeper. The philosophy of Materialism is actually atheism. The Materialist does not believe in the supernatural, in God, in our souls or in any moral truth. The Materialist believes that only matter exists and that all life, including human life, is a product of the motion of matter. Darwinism assumed this philosophy, saying that living things only act to insure the survival of the species, there is no eternal purpose, just survival of the next generation, because of the impulse or movement of living matter.

Materialism as a philosophy is a very sad reality. Here are some short explanations of Materialism that might help:

The theory that all reality is only matter, or a function of matter, or ultimately derived from matter. There is no real distinction between matter and spirit; even man’s soul is essentially material and not uniquely created by God. In ethical philosophy, materialism holds that material goods and interests, the pleasures of the body and emotional experience, are the only or at least the main reason for human existence. In social philosophy, the view that economics and this-worldly interests are the main functions of society. https://www.catholicculture.org/culture/library/dictionary/index.cfm?id=34790

[about Karl Marx] The first of his two key ideas is that of atheistic historical materialism. Like Hobbes, Marx believed that there was no creating God, no plan, design or providence that worked in the universe and as a result there was no metaphysics that could posit knowable, immaterial principles by which and through which the universe existed. For Marx there was only the unstoppable progress of history through the process of matter.

Materialism is the philosophy that reality consists only in the physical and tangible. Materialists seek their ultimate happiness in physical pleasures and possessions. They don’t believe in spiritual goods and they don’t really value human nature. People who embrace materialism often teeter between living life to the fullest and falling into the pit of despair.
The materialist assumption is that the tangible world is all that exists. Nothing exists if it cannot be proven true by science. The assumption is that any claim to truth without scientific evidence is nothing more than opinion. This means that what would be considered true through philosophy or faith is considered mere personal preference by a materialist, including many religious and moral truths. Of course, this view of reality in general has a great effect on a materialist’s view of human nature and human life in particular.   http://www.fromtheabbey.com/library/materialism/

We can see this philosophy in action in most of our cultures today. It is a hopeless way of thinking, because ultimately nothing really matters but your fleeting pleasures. There is no afterlife, there is no heaven or God. There is only this life.

How many times Our Lady has tried to help us look to the eternal, to heaven as our future. She came to tell us the God exists. And she constantly directs our eyes to the supernatural, to the life of our souls, to the reality of the afterlife, and our future destiny with God. She does not want us to fall into the Materialist funk, living as if there is no life after death.

So that is Materialism. Yes, it is being distracted by stuff, but even more it is being lied to about our immortal souls and our eternal life with God.

As Our Lady tells us, we must fight this way of thinking!!

Trump Administration Gives Hope to Persecuted Christians

“…persecuted Christians will finally be considered for resettlement…”

FRONT ROYAL, VIRGINIA — Christian Freedom International supports President Trump’s executive order regarding refugee resettlement.

The order mandates the suspension of the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program for 120 days, while the secretaries of State and Homeland Security review the program’s application and adjudication process and determine whether additional measures are required to “ensure that those approved for refugee admission do not pose a threat to the security and welfare of the United States.”

Our Lady gave us a strong directive in this most recent message. She is calling us to pray for peace. And she is warning us that Satan is strong and wants to take all our peace away, by convincing us that God is our enemy, and that all that is good will only come through our own efforts, our own thoughts, our own understandings of life, and our own desires. The enemy is trying to convince us that we are the center of our own universe. And that is when he will have us in his grasp.

Our Lady warns us about three “isms”. “Isms” are belief systems that arrange a set of values around some basic understanding of reality, and influence our choices. “Isms” are ideologies. They can be very dangerous. They can lead us into real trouble, by redefining our lives in terms of a value or idea that can become a god to us. There have been many destructive ideologies. But Our Lady mentions three: materialism, modernism, and egoism.

I think modernism is maybe the most difficult of the three to understand. It actually is very much at the heart of the troubles we are having in our world. Modernism is a way of understanding existence which began with Luther and Decartes, and has permeated the way religious people approach the faith even to today. It makes us think that what is important is our own inner understanding of things, our subjective experiences. Don’t we see this way of thinking everywhere in our societies today? It makes us the center of the universe, individually. Absurd!! Yes.

I discovered a short talk given by Bishop Robert Barron in 2012. This talk really helped me to understand what modernism is, how it began, and how it has influenced theologians and philosophers for the past 400 years. It explains a lot about the confusion we have in the Church and in the greater society about our faith.

Bishop Barron says there are 4 key points that help us recognize Modernism:
Subjectivism
Rationalism
Dualism
Anti-Traditionalism

These four ways of approaching the faith build on one another, and have weakened the faith. Rene Descartes declared this new understanding of things in this way:

Subjectivism was announced by Rene Descartes in his famous “I doubt, therefore I think, therefore I am.” Descartes decided that all reality was subject to his own perception of it. And so the personal experience was the final arbiter of what was real.

Rationalism was embraced by Descartes because he felt that only mathematical or scientific thought was a reliable source of information about the outside world.

Dualism emerged because if the inner subjective perception was so important, then the body and the outside world was secondary in importance. Hence the mind over body attitude.

And Anti-Tradionalism came into his thought because it seemed better to get rid of the old structures (like the Church) in favor of the new structures of thought coming from his own understandings.

We can see these four ways of approaching the world and our faith in so much of modern thought today, according to Bishop Barron.

Here is a link to his talk, on YouTube. He speaks for about 40 minutes. It is in the first half of the video. Bishop Barron starts about 10 minutes into the video. I found his talk very helpful in getting a clear understanding of what modernism is. We encounter it every day in and outside of the Church.

So you have your homework for today!

Our Lady wants us to be equipped to stand up for the truth, because in the truth we will find peace as well. And peace is so very much in danger these days. But we can be carriers of peace, if we pray and fight with Our Lady. Pray, pray, pray!!

DAY NINE:
January 29, 2017
Intercession

For God’s peace to fill the hearts of all who travel upon the path of adoption.

Prayers
Our Father, 3 Hail Marys, Glory Be
Reflection
The Letter to the Hebrews reminds us to “hold fast to the hope that lies before us. This we have as an anchor of the soul, sure and firm” (Heb 6:18-19). We pray that all who are involved in the adoption process would be filled with the hope of Christ and “the peace of God that surpasses all understanding” (Phil 4:7). We also remember that we too can cling fast to this anchor of hope, for we have received “a spirit of adoption, through which we cry, ‘Abba, Father!’” (Rom 8:15). May our loving Father envelop each of us in his love today and open our eyes in faith that we may see and rejoice in his love.
