The Key is Actually Living One’s Consecration…Here is How the Saints Did It

To live one’s Consecration sincerely ( and St. Louis De Montfort says most don’t do this) means to impregnate one’s whole life with it. To attain to that end, we must recall it often and renew it frequently. The times to do this are when we awake, at morning prayer, at Holy Communion,  during difficult moments of the day, when we are tempted to sin and during the night examen.  Little by little with practice and perseverance, calling on Mary to help us, we will constantly call Mary into every thought, word and act and truly live the Consecration completely.  But what is more important than multiplying the times we renew it, is the care we put into it, especially seeking to place our entire will and all our whole soul into this effort.

The Grace of the Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a Gift from God through His Mother to purposely help us accelerate the living of one’s Consecration and it further allows us to more easily and securely live this Consecration at each moment of the day.  Since our whole purpose is to imitate Jesus, and the Consecration allows us to do just that much better than we ever could with our own efforts, are we not foolish if we fail to know, desire and accept the Grace of the Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary,  which is an Extraordinary Grace for these times that God begs us to accept?

‘Choose Life’ Group Officially Rejected by St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee: Unnamed ‘Right to Life’ Group will March Instead
Contact: Dr. Elizabeth Rex, President, The Children First Foundation, 914-629-3710
NEW YORK, Jan. 30, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ — Dr. Elizabeth Rex was recently informed by Mr. John Dunleavy, Chairman of The NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, that The Children First Foundation, a pro-adoption, charitable organization that has been seeking the approval of a pro-adoption New York State “Choose Life” License Plate since 2001, has been officially rejected.

In his letter dated January 22 (and received on January 28), Mr. Dunleavy returned Dr. Rex’s Parade Application Forms and $200 Parade Application Fee that had been submitted to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee over three months ago on October 17, 2014.

The only reason Mr. Dunleavy provided was that the “[parade] committee has selected a Right to Life group which will be led by the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Honor Guard.” He also added that “Cardinal Dolan has been made aware of this.”

Dr. Rex explained that her overall reaction to Mr. Dunleavy’s letter was a positive one. “At least now a pro-life group will be included -instead of excluded – in the 2015 St. Patrick’s Day Parade,” she said.

The Parade Committee’s historic decision to select a “pro-life group” finally fulfills the terms of the “compromise” that was first reported on September 3rd in the Wall Street Journal, that ‘the organizers also will now let a ‘pro-life’ group march with a banner.'”

This is a highly significant turn of events, because the inclusion of a “pro-life group” in the 2015 Parade has been at least as controversial – if not more so – than the inclusion of a “gay group.” For over 20 years both groups have been excluded until now.

At the Press Conference on September 3rd, Cardinal Dolan, the Parade’s 2015 Grand Marshal, defended this Change in Policy by saying that we are all “God’s children, deserving dignity and respect, never to be treated with discrimination or injustice.”

Unfortunately, on September 10th, Dr. John Lahey, the Parade Committee’s Vice-Chairman and President of Quinnipiac University, when asked by Irish Central about the inclusion of a “pro-life group,” unexpectedly announced, “That won’t be happening.”

The next day, September 11th, Bill Donohue, President of the Catholic League, protested this exclusion of a pro-life group by withdrawing himself and the Catholic League from the 2015 Parade. In an excoriating email, Donohue carefully explained that his “reasons for withdrawing from the parade have nothing to do with Cardinal Dolan or with gays. It has to do with being betrayed by the parade committee. They not only told me one thing and did another, they decided to include a gay group that is neither Catholic nor Irish while stiffing pro-life Catholics. This is as stunning as it is indefensible.”

Mr. Dunleavy has apparently prevailed in restoring the Committee’s original Change in Policy. What still remains to be known, however, is crucial: which Right to Life group has been selected to march in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade; what will their group’s banner say; and when will the Parade Committee make this important announcement
?

As the family goes, so goes the nation and so goes the whole world in which we live.  (Pope Saint John Paul II, Familiaris consortio 1)

Last week in Rome I joined nearly 300 people from 28 countries representing 83 Catholic movements and institutions for a conference sponsored by the Pontifical Council for the Family. The primary focus of the three-day conference was to discuss questions aimed in response to the “Relatio Synodi” of the III Extraordinary Synod that met in October 2014. Conference participants were assigned the task of reflecting and discussing the 46 questions posed by the Synod Fathers. Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, President for the Pontifical Council for the Family, will now synthesize these responses and present them to the Synod secretary for reflection and consideration.

As the opening session began, I recalled the words of Pope Saint John Paul II, the great defender of the family, quoted above. The situations confronting society can be resolved if we merely follow God’s plan for the family based on true marriage – one man and one woman open to the gift of life in an indissoluble and exclusive union, a union instituted and willed by God. Guided by the destructive forces of relativism  and cultural individualism, society attempts to deconstruct the natural family and remake it into a new man-made entity, thus rejecting God’s gifts of marriage, family, and life.

humanbabyIncreasingly, governments and multinational organizations are united in a concerted effort to tear the family down. With great success on social, political, legal, and religious fronts, they are undermining healthy traditions and destabilizing religious and moral convictions. The result is the normalization of individualistic values that are imposed with complete intolerance toward anyone who dissents. The Church stands in the breech, confronting the deceptive tactics while witnessing the beauty and wonder of God’s divine plan for the natural family and humanity. Man and woman are not alone in this great battle. There is an answer and there is hope.

The Church is the sign of God’s love. She is a teacher always at the service of humanity. She takes up the call to continually defend the gifts of God while addressing the tensions that cause division and alienation from God. She preaches a message of hope and joy in the midst of a world often torn by strife and discord. She teaches what is true. She cannot call bad what is good or good what is bad. She knows that by upholding the moral law she is contributing to an authentic human civilization – a civilization of life and love – while calling each to remember and take into his heart the moral law. She walks with us, alongside every man and woman, aiding us to fulfill our destiny. She never abandons us.

As with the Church, the family — the “domestic church” — is a community of life and love. It educates and leads its members to their full maturity. It serves the good of each person and their salvation in Christ Jesus. It seeks always to love God who loved us first and in response to His gift of love, the family is always generous in its service of neighbor. Within this divinely instituted cell of society, moral values are witnessed, as well as the fundamental values anchored in the Gospel. Within the natural family, children learn real love and how to distinguish right from wrong, as well as how to choose good over evil. From their mother and father entrusted with their guidance, children learn how to love God with their whole being and how to be generous with their gifts. They learn to respect God’s commands and live out their duty as sons and daughters of God enriched with a spiritual heritage. It is within this cell that children learn the full meaning of Saint Paul’s inspired words: “Love is always patient and kind, it is never jealous; love is never boastful or conceited. Love takes no joy in others people’s sins but delights in the truth; it is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes.” (1 Cor 13:4-7).

humanity.bannerThere are many wounds within the Body of Christ. Families and individuals are suffering. This reality cannot be ignored nor should it be ignored. However, we cannot conclude that humanity can resolve or heal its wounds by its own merit – how hopeless and discouraging this would be!

Our goal is not to succumb to the pressures of secularism and individualism promoted and raised up as ideals; instead, we must raise up God’s plan for the natural family, not diminish it as if God doesn’t understand our situation or is unable to heal our brokenness. We are at this precipice because we have manipulated God’s plan, thinking we can design a better family and humanity. We are here because we have sought happiness in self-centered pleasures and material consumption, not in the God-given value of our life and its ultimate destiny.

The One who creates and sustains the possibility of a marriage between one man and one woman — open to gift of life that is indissoluble, exclusive, and fruitful — is God. The One who allows and enables a person to be pure, chaste, selfless, and generous is God. God instituted marriage; it is not a human construct (cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church 1603). He created man for woman and woman for man, united in ‘one flesh’ for the gift of new life.

No one has the authority to re-define marriage, not even the Church. Our responsibility is to highlight the primacy, vocation, and mission of the family thus building a genuine civilization of life and love. The family by its nature is called to transform the world – to be an agent within the culture – light and salt.

January 30, 2015

Dear Family of Mary!

“Dear children! Also today I call you: live your vocation in prayer. Now, as never before, Satan wants to suffocate man and his soul by his contagious wind of hatred and unrest. In many hearts there is no joy because there is no God or prayer. Hatred and war are growing from day to day. I am calling you, little children, begin anew, with enthusiasm, the walk of holiness and love; since I have come among you because of this. Together let us be love and forgiveness for all those who know and want to love only with a human love and not with that immeasurable love of God to which God calls you. Little children, may hope in a better tomorrow always be in your heart. Thank you for having responded to my call.” (January 25, 2015)

“Hatred and war are growing from day to day. I am calling you, little children, begin anew, with enthusiasm, the walk of holiness and love; since I have come among you because of this.”

It seems we find ourselves at a moment in history in which the forces of good and evil are locked in a decisive conflict. On every level of society, in every country of the world, there is a sense of confrontation. It takes different forms, but at the heart of it, the real battle is over the souls of men. Abortion, euthanasia, slavery, exploitation of every kind, poverty, ethnic and religious persecution… and on and on. The world is engulfed in war and hatred.

We may ask ourselves, how did I come to live at this most terrible moment? Why has this chance come to me? It is unnerving. But truthfully we are not the first people to find ourselves in such a situation. Our forefathers faced similar difficulties, world wars, famines, depressions, social upheavals. This is the plight of sinful man.

Yet our time seems especially dreadful.

Our Lady has been sent to us, is among us, precisely because of the times we are in. She tells us that she has come among us just now when “hatred and war are growing from day to day,” because the Father has sent her to help us to “begin anew, with enthusiasm, the walk of holiness and love!” She has come to lead us forward against hatred and war, to be our general in the battle against the evils of our time.

Our job in this confrontation is to walk the way of holiness and love. No matter the fears and dangers, no matter the number of people walking the way of sin and death, our job is to walk with Our Lady on the way of holiness and love.

Whenever I think of our times I am reminded of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy by JRR Tolkien. For me, this epic story presents the challenge of our day. I especially identify with Frodo and Sam. Thrust into a moment in the history of Middle Earth, Frodo has landed in the center of the battle of good against evil. He has been made the heir of Bilbo, and must accept the Ring of Power into his care. If anyone could say why me, it is Frodo. In fact he does say it to Gandalf. And Gandalf’s reply is a reply to each of us;

‘I wish it need not have happened in my time,’ said Frodo.
‘So do I,’ said Gandalf, ‘and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.’ (The Fellowship of the Ring, Book I)

Indeed if you know this story, Frodo proceeds with Sam to walk a very difficult way always in love and holiness.  He conquers in the end because he has had mercy upon Gollum, and Gollum ends up destroying the ring through his lust for it.  Frodo succeeds even as he fails, because of the mercy in his heart.  (It’s a long story!)

Indeed, Our Lady is with us, among us, to help us to decide what to do with the time that is given us. And that time is the time of her Triumph. We are called to live holiness, to live love, to testify to the reality that God exists. This is the time we are in, and this is our task. But we have Our Lady among us, with us, to help us the entire way. We have been given the greatest of gifts, the presence of Mary. With her aid, we can meet the times we have been given, and bring God’s love into those times. This is the call.

I like the word “enthusiasm”. It is a positive word. It implies hope and a belief in the future. It is a word that carries strength and joy in it. If we truly understand the future that awaits us, we should be enthusiastic. Like St. Stephen, St. Paul, St. John and all the holy saints, we can be full of joy at what awaits us. This is important for us as we decide what to do with the time that is given us.

Our Lady spoke enthusiastic words to us on March 18, 2012. Let these words be our rallying cry:

“Dear children! I am coming among you because I desire to be your mother – your intercessor. I desire to be the bond between you and the Heavenly Father – your Mediatrix. I desire to take you by the hand and to walk with you in the battle against the impure spirit. My children, consecrate yourselves to me completely. I will take your lives into my motherly hands and I will teach them peace and love, and then I will give them over to my Son. I am asking of you to pray and fast because only in this way will you know how to witness my Son in the right way through my motherly heart. Pray for your shepherds that, united in my Son, they can always joyfully proclaim the Word of God. Thank you.”

Thank you dearest Mother, for taking us by the hand and walking with us into the battle against the impure spirit. Thank you for coming among us to show us what to do with the time that has been given us!!

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
