40 Days for Life

Dear Deacon John,

During a 40 Days for Life campaign, many people read the 40 Days for Life book — 40 chapters including stories of babies saved, abortion workers who had a conversion … and a scripture and prayer for every chapter.

But as we headed into the largest spring 40 Days for Life campaign ever in more than 340 cities … we sold out of the book!

After a rushed third printing of the book, we are excited to release the EXPANDED EDITION with new BONUS chapters and …
… a new ending!
Get the new expanded edition of the Amazon top-rated Christian book at:
In this new expanded edition you will learn:
  • The moving, behind-the-scenes inspiration for 40 Days for Life
  • The never-before-told story of how the closed abortion facility where the campaign began became the headquarters of 40 Days for Life
  • The inspiring story of two former abortion doctors now offering life in a closed Planned Parenthood building
  • The revelation after entering the closed Planned Parenthood abortion facility that impacts YOU

“40 Days for Life is one of the most impressive initiatives launch since Roe vs. Wade. It’s a powerful combination of prayer and persuasion aimed above all at serving women. The forty stories told here are stories of America at its best.”

— George Weigel, author, biographer of St. John Paul II
“This beautiful book will touch your heart and challenge you. There is no movement more important, and 40 Days for Life is leading the fight — spiritually and practically — in the trenches every day. This book will help you see how you can take part in saving a life.”

— Lila Rose, President, Live Action
“If you’re growing weary over the increasing level of disrespect of the most innocent among us, open this book, read these encouraging stories of lives saved and redeemed, and help let the light out!”

— Jim Daly, President, Focus on the Family

San Luis Obispo, California

“We had another save!” said Kirt in San Luis Obispo.

“We were able to walk a young couple down to local pregnancy center,” he said, “and even though closed, the opportunity to consider another option and slow down the process was just what this couple needed.”

They drove away, smiling, thumbs up and saying, “I’m not going to have an abortion!”

“Praise God!” Kirt said.

Edinburgh, Scotland

This is a worldwide campaign … and the 40 Days for Life team in Edinburgh got a firsthand example of that when the pastor of the Edinburgh Indian Christian Community of St. Anthony prayed at the vigil with several members of his church.

The group prayed in five languages — English, Polish, Italian, Tamil and Malayalam. With some of the opposition the Scottish vigils have seen during this campaign, it was a sure sign of unity among Christ’s people!

Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgressions of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. He will again have compassion on us; and will subdue our iniquities.Micah 7:18-19

Heavenly Father, eternal, changeless, and faithful Lord, we recognize that we are in need of forgiveness as a nation, for turning our hearts away from you. Hear our prayer of repentance Lord and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We praise you for your tender mercies and your compassion that never fails. Lord, it is only by Your grace that we can live lives that are just, and merciful.

Dear Family of Mary!

“Dear children! In this time of grace, I am calling all of you to open your hearts to God’s mercy, to begin a new life through prayer, penance and a decision for holiness. This time of spring moves you to a new life, to a renewal, in your thoughts and hearts. Therefore, little children, I am with you to help you to say ‘yes’ to God and to God’s commandments with resoluteness. You are not alone; I am with you through the grace which the Most High gives me for you and your descendants. Thank you for having responded to my call.” (March 25, 2017)

This message is a great word of encouragement!! We are in the middle of Lent. Our little Lenten practices are beginning to annoy us! Our spirits may be down. We may have failed to live up to our expectations for Lent. And so, here we are, needing to be lifted up.

Our Lady is doing just that. Listen to her motherly heart urging us to keep trying:

“In this time of grace, I am calling all of you to open your hearts to God’s mercy, to begin a new life through prayer, penance and a decision for holiness.” The first step is to open our hearts to God’s mercy. Nothing will be achieved if we live this Lent on our own steam. We cannot change ourselves. Only God’s merciful love can change us! But we have to ask for help, through prayer, penance and a firm decision to change. We have to ask for the grace to change. God will give it.

This time of spring moves you to a new life, to a renewal, in your thoughts and hearts.” Spring is a time of new birth. What better time to seek a new birth of faith in our thoughts and hearts. Our old habits, our old thought patterns, the self-defeating assumptions we have about ourselves and about life, all have to go. Spring tells us it is time to change!

Therefore, little children, I am with you to help you to say ‘yes’ to God and to God’s commandments with resoluteness.” Our Lady tells us that she is with us. To help us! Help us to do what? To say ‘yes’ to God and His commandments. Who better to show us how to say ‘yes’ to God than Mary, the Mother of God. Her Fiat changed history. She can help us change our own histories! By saying ‘yes’ to God and His commandments, the rules He gave us to make us happy!

“You are not alone; I am with you through the grace which the Most High gives me for you and your descendants.” And here is the best news of all. Our Lady is with us because God has sent her to us with graces galore for us, and not only for us but for our descendants!!! This is big news! Our Lady is giving us a future through God’s grace. And our descendants will also have her by their side. We are not alone!!! Our Lady is with us!

So, if you are not too happy these days, cheer up! We have the Queen of Heaven with us to help us change, grow, learn to love, and live God’s commandments!! We have a Mother who will not leave us. We are blessed!

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

The culture of death will stop at nothing to bleed the morality from society. It is our job to ensure that the culture of life prevails.

Judge Neil Gorsuch is facing the same sort of opposition that Judge Robert Bork (1927-2012) confronted in 1987. Judge Bork’s nomination was defeated, not because of his qualifications, but because of his “judicial philosophy and temperament.”

Today, Gorsuch appears to be receiving the same sort of hostility from those who cannot tolerate judges who read and understand the Constitution. The only difference between the Bork scenario 30 years ago and Gorsuch’s today is that the vehemence of those vested in the culture of death is far more hostile.

Deacon John,

God uses little actions to save lives.

He did it recently in Houston, Texas where a baby was just saved from an abortion … and all it took to change a young woman’s mind was seeing one prayer volunteer holding a sign.

The sign read: “Pray to end abortion.”

“However,” said one of the Houston leaders, “we don’t always see results right away.”

Houston, Texas

It is often family members who relentlessly pressure their younger relatives to have abortions. One young woman came to Houston’s giant Planned Parenthood abortion facility with her aunt because her mother was totally against the abortion.

A sidewalk counselor warned the young woman that abortion can cause lasting damage to a woman’s body. The aunt responded that abortion had not hurt her.

At this point, the volunteer turned to the aunt … and talked about post-abortion healing programs in which mothers are encouraged to name their aborted babies.

The aunt responded: “All ten of them?”

The two women eventually walked away. But a week later, the younger woman spoke to the counselors at the mobile pregnancy help center parked outside Planned Parenthood.

She did not want an abortion … but she did want their help.

“Please keep all of the pregnant mothers and their unborn babies in your prayers,” said the Houston team member, “especially those who are considering abortion.”

Santa Teresa, New Mexico

One of the 40 Days for Life vigil participants in Santa Teresa said that while she was praying, a couple pulled up outside the abortion facility.

But they didn’t get out of their car. They just sat there talking. While they remained in the car, the volunteer prayed fervently for them. Imagine her joy when after about ten minutes, the driver started the engine – and they backed up and drove away without ever getting out of the vehicle.

“While we can’t be 100% certain this was indeed a save,” said one of the Santa Teresa team members, “it very likely is, as this is a common response when there is a peaceful, prayerful witness of 40 Days for Life volunteer praying in front of an abortion facility.”

image

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

At the 40 Days for Life vigil outside the abortion center in Milwaukee, it was sunny but bitter cold.

“I’ve always thought it the coldest spot in Milwaukee,” said one of the team members, “but your prayers warmed the hearts of four women who did not keep their appointments to abort and chose life instead!”

While the abortion center’s escorts were busy telling a couple they didn’t need to talk to the vigil participants, one of the volunteers asked the couple if they’d been able to see their ultrasound. They said “yes.”

“Then I asked if they were going to keep their baby … and they said ‘yes!’ I told them free help was available at the pregnancy care center if they needed it. Praise God! Baby saved!”

One of the abortion facility workers made fun of two of elderly vigil participants who use canes to help them walk. “He must have known deep down how effective their prayers are,” said the team member. “Keep your prayers coming, everyone!”

Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressor; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.

— Isaiah 1:16-17

O God, our heavenly Father, give us courage and wisdom as we seek to eradicate the evil in our society.

Help us to realize that your divine Spirit alone can change hearts and minds so that all your human creatures may enjoy the fullness of life you intended for them.

“Therefore, little children, I am with you to help you to say ‘yes’ to God and to God’s commandments with resoluteness.” There is no one else who can better help us to say ‘yes’ to God! Our Lady is the perfect example, held aloft by the Father for us to emulate. She can help us learn to say ‘yes’ to the Lord in every situation. We have only to turn to her for strength and discernment!

Fr. Leon gave an astounding homily on the Feast of the Annunciation of the Lord. He explained so many things about Our Lady and Jesus so clearly. I would like to share the transcript today. It deserves a very careful reading!!

Fr. Leon Pereira, Homily at English Mass in Medjugorje, March 25, 2017:

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

The Liturgy around Christmas time calls Our Lady “You who have destroyed all the surrounding heresies.” It is a very strange thing to say. But also a beautiful thing to say about Our Lady. Our Lady is the Destroyer of Heresies. And she is the Destroyer of Heresies by simply being who and what she is. Because she is the Mother of God. Full stop. Period, as the Americans might say. Because she is the Mother of God.

Now every heresy in the end is the denial that Jesus is truly human. Or it is the denial that He is truly God. Or a denial that He is both. Every heresy in the end boils down to this. But Our Lady is the guarantee of this truth. That the Word became flesh. Became flesh of her flesh, and was born of her. Therefore, she is the Destroyer of all Heresies. And we need her intercession especially in our own time when men, as Scripture says, have itching ears and run after all sorts of strange doctrines.

Now the idea that God became a baby is a strange one. In all the pagan kind of myths, the gods who become human – for example in Hinduism the Avatars as we say in English, the Avatarum in Sanskrit – it just means that they take on a human appearance, they live among human beings and have adventures, and when it is all done they go back up to heaven and abandon their physical bodies. So in a way it is not really an incarnation at all. It’s kind of playing a little joke. And at the end of it you go back up. It’s a bit like you as an adult when you are playing with children, you can be childish and play with them. And then when you finish the game you go back to being an adult. You were never a child; you were never one of them. Ever. (Well a long time ago but you have forgotten what it is to be innocent.)

But when God becomes a human being, He does this really and truly. In a serious way, He does not abandon His body. He rises again from the dead, still with the holes in His hands and feet. And then He takes His body and human soul up to heaven to the right hand of the Father at the Ascension. So Jesus shows that He takes our physicality seriously.

Why does He do this? Could God have saved us in another way? Did Jesus have to die on the Cross? Well He’s God, right? And God can do anything? He can save us any way He wants. But what does Scripture tell us, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.” The word ‘so’ there meaning ‘thus’. God loved the world ‘this way’, that He gave His Son to die for us on the Cross. That’s how God loves us. He could have done it any way, but He chose this way.

And He shows us therefore, He shows us therefore that our bodies are serious matters. He takes our physicality seriously. It is not a joke to Him.

In Christian tradition we piously believe – you know the beginning of the Letter to the Hebrews, it says that God brings His Son forth and tells the angels, now let all the angels of God worship Him. And we piously believe that this is when Lucifer and all the angels that followed him rebelled. They said, “No, You shouldn’t become a man! You shouldn’t be born of a woman! Implicit in this is that Lucifer was saying, “I will never say to a woman, “Hail full of grace!” And this, we piously believe, is the rebellion of Satan and the demons. A rejection of the Incarnation!

So it is no surprise that in our world today, the blasphemies uttered against Our Lady arise because they are demon inspired, demon goaded. Terrible things said about Our Lady. But also the rejection of the Incarnation.  How is the incarnation rejected in our modern world?   Whenever you see body and soul divided, so they pretend that we are just mostly souls and our bodies are irrelevant, so they talk about reincarnation and all that sort of thing.  Or they pretend we are just bodies without souls: do what you like, more or less.  It’s your body.  Your body is your instrument, do what you like with it, have a tattoo, pierce it in all sorts of disgusting places and all that business.  Or the separation of body and soul in our philosophies, in illnesses, anorexia, bulimia, in illnesses of the soul, pornography. All of these things are rejections of the Incarnation.  All of them are leaning towards the devil saying, “I will never say to a woman, ‘Hail full of grace.’ And that’s why we say “Hail full of grace!  The Lord is with you.”  The Lord is with you as a baby, with human hands and human feet and a human heart – a divine human heart.

This is what we are saying: the glory and joy of being able to say a single Hail Mary.  Isn’t it marvelous!  This is what the demons will not and cannot say.  But we, through the Holy Spirit can say this.  And we are made sharers of this joy.  Something new comes into being when Our Lady says, “Behold I am the Handmaid of the Lord. Be it done unto me according to your word.”

Do you remember, how does Genesis begin?  God says, “Let there be light.”  “Fiat.”  “Let there be light.  And a new creation comes into being.  When Our Lady says, “Let it be done to me,” again “fiat.”  A new creation comes into being. And just in case you’ve missed it, Luke tells us, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.” Where have you heard that before?  The Holy Spirit will overshadow you.  It’s one word in Hebrew… “RHP” (RaHap)….  It means: like a bird, a mother hen brooding over something – over her chicks, but in this case brooding over the waters.  Genesis: The Holy Spirit broods over the waters and everything comes to be.  In the same way, the Holy Spirit broods over Our Lady and a new creation comes into being when she says “Fiat”.

The Annunciation is an astounding dialogue.  It is a conversation between God – a courteous conversation – between God and a human being, saying, “Would you kindly be the mother of my Son?”  And she says, “I am your servant, I am your slave.  Be it done unto me according to your word.”  It’s a beautiful conversation.  And He tells us for our sake, He greets Our Lady for what she is.  He says, “Hail full of grace.”  In Greek you could I suppose translate as, “Rejoice gorgeous! – Rejoice beautiful one! – Rejoice grace filled one!”  And He tells her this for our sake because through her God has destroyed all the heresies and will continue to destroy every single one of them until the end of time.  In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen!
You can listen to Fr. Leon give this homily at this link:

One comment. What Father says is so powerful!! It occurred to me that the Rosary IS the most powerful prayer besides the Mass. With every Hail Mary, we are aiming a blow at the head of Satan, because we say and believe what He rejected. (The late Fr. Gabriel Amorth -exorcist- always said this!) He lost heaven and all hope because he could not accept the Incarnation nor the Woman who made it possible. And so our prayer of the Rosary is a great protection and weapon against evil. Isn’t God amazing!

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
