Former abortion industry worker and Planned Parenthood Employee of the Year turns whistleblower to abortion giant after assisting in an ultra-sound guided abortion procedure

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 31, 2019 /Christian Newswire/ — UNPLANNED: THE TRUE STORY OF ABBY JOHNSON – in theaters nationwide March 29, 2019 – is the dramatic account of a former Planned Parenthood superstar. Johnson was one of their greatest allies as the youngest director of a clinic in the nation, until she walked out after assisting in an abortion of a 13-week-old fetus. Johnson worked for the abortion industry for eight years and was awarded the 2008 Employee of the Year at Planned Parenthood. She became a national headline when she walked out and even though Planned Parenthood tried to silence her, no court found their arguments credible.

“I thought I was helping women,” said Abby Johnson, founder and director of And Then There Were None, the only group in the country that helps abortion workers exit the industry and find them new jobs. “But I was doing more harm than good. It wasn’t until I saw a child fight for its life that my world came crashing down and I understood the enormity of my actions. I had to leave. No one will be able to walk away after seeing this movie and say ‘I didn’t know.'”

During her time as director of Planned Parenthood in Bryan, Texas, Johnson facilitated over 22,000 abortions. Since leaving, she has helped nearly 500 former abortion workers, including seven doctors, leave their jobs and find fulfilling careers outside of the abortion industry.

Bringing to life this powerful real-life story of redemption and love, UNPLANNED stars Ashley Bratcher (WAR ROOM, 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN) as Johnson; Brooks Ryan as her husband, Doug; Robia Scott (CSI, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER) as Abby’s superior at Planned Parenthood; Emma Elle Roberts (HUNGER GAMES:MOCKING JAY, I AM NOT ASHAMED, ) as Marilisa Carney, Kaiser Johnson (LITTLE BOY, VAMPIRE DIARIES, SLEEPY HOLLOW); and Jared Lotz (OF LITTLE CONVENIENCE, THANKSGIVING) as Shawn Carney.

Actress Ashley Bratcher was nearly aborted by her own mother, which she didn’t find out until filming began. “I was born for this role,” said Bratcher.

Written, produced and directed by Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman, (GOD’S NOT DEAD, GOD’S NOT DEAD 2, DO YOU BELIEVE) and produced by Daryl Lefever (I CAN ONLY IMAGINE), UNPLANNED puts the story of the Abby Johnson, the most prominent defector from the abortion industry, on the big screen at a time when the life issue is hanging in the balance amidst a divided political landscape.

“This is the most important movie anyone will ever see on the most controversial issue of our time,” said Solomon and Konzelman. “When UNPLANNED comes to theaters, this movie will make abortion unpopular.”

With nearly one million abortions that take place each year in the United States, and public opinion evenly split on the topic, UNPLANNED shows what life is like on both sides of the fence.

During the March for Life Vigil Mass at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington,Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of Kansas City and the head of the U.S. Bishops Committee on Pro-Life Activities, gave the film a rousing endorsement during his homily, “If you see one film this year, see UNPLANNED … I warn you, UNPLANNED is graphic, it’s painful, but at the same time, inspiring …”

WASHINGTON, Jan. 31, 2019 /Christian Newswire/ — Representative Jim Banks (R-IN) yesterday introduced on the floor of the U.S. House a resolution proposing a constitutional amendment to protect parental rights. Joining Rep. Banks on the measure, House Joint Resolution 36 (H.J. Res. 36), were fifteen original cosponsors representing districts from around the country.

“A child’s mental, physical, and emotional well-being is predicated on the ability of their parents to direct their upbringing and education,” Rep. Banks said in a statement on Wednesday. “It was not the intention of our Founding Fathers to leave government bureaucrats and elected officials in charge of deciding what is in the best interest of someone else’s child. As a father of three little girls, I find this simply unacceptable and I urge my colleagues to join me in solidifying the American tradition of parental rights as fundamental rights protected by the U.S. Constitution.”

“We are excited to have Rep. Banks taking the lead on this important protection for children,” declared attorney Jim Mason, president of ParentalRights.org and a proponent of the amendment. “It is a crucial question that too few are talking about: who will safeguard the child’s rights until she can guard them for herself? The answer is obvious; no one will better advocate for a child and sacrifice for a child than the child’s parent.”

The proposed Amendment would provide that “the liberty of parents to direct the upbringing, education, and care of their children is a fundamental right.” Proponents believe the measure would correct a 2000 Supreme Court ruling that robbed parental rights of key constitutional protections, leaving the family vulnerable to a wide range of interpretations in lower federal and state courts.

Adoption of a constitutional amendment requires a two-thirds vote in both houses of Congress, meaning bipartisan support will be necessary to move it to the states for ratification.

Lawmakers interested in cosponsoring H.J. Res. 36 proposing an Amendment to the U.S. Constitution regarding parental rights should contact Tanner Spencer in Representative Banks’s office.

St Joseph Icon
St. Joseph, pray for us!

January 31, 2019
St. John Bosco

Dear Family of Mary!

Fr. Maximilian has been guiding us spiritually through the English Mass in Medjugorje during this time when Fr. Leon has been called away. I have transcribed Fr. Maximilian’s opening remarks before Mass on January 30, 2019. I feel that Fr. Max has hit upon a very important aspect of God’s plan at this time in Medjugorje. That aspect is the role of St. Joseph!

Denis and I have been entrusting Mary TV to St. Joseph in a special way for a long time (especially through Br. Andre Bessette). And St. Joseph has done many incredible miracles for Mary TV. But I never understood the important role that St. Joseph has for Medjugorje until I heard Fr. Max speak yesterday.

See what you think!

English Mass in Medjugorje – January 30, 2019

Fr. Maximilian Dalve’s opening remarks…

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, AMEN.

In the grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Mother, be with you all! Amen.

We just sang “Laudato si” which is a song that comes forth from the words of St. Francis. He praised the Lord for the beauty of creation. We all know this prayer of St. Francis and we should do that prayer in the morning, singing songs of praise that our life may become a song of praise. And giving thanks is always the very best prayer to make. In the morning, one of the visionaries, Vicka, said it is the prayer that ties us to God because it is an act of love. To recognize the love of God and the beauty of his love in all things, all happenings, in all creation.

So now we are gathered around the altar of the Lord to celebrate the redemption of all creation. The redemption of each one of us. Holy Mass is full of wonder, full of awe which we will never be able to understand as Mary has said in her messages.

Today, Wednesday, we want to celebrate in honor of St. Joseph, for he is a hidden saint who we have to discover. Because God entrusted to him the greatest treasures, His Son who yesterday in the Gospel told us that we can all become His brother, sister, even mother! So, He invites us to become even Mary. But He never said to anyone, become my father. The father is only God the Father! But Jesus called, as we know, when He was a little child and He looked at Joseph, He called him “Abba” – Father!

What did He see in the face of Joseph? What was the feeling of Joseph when he heard the Son of God calling him “father”? His humility, his virtues…if we could get some of his virtues. But he wants to give them to us.

And who was closer, besides Jesus, to Mary than Joseph himself? Because he had the sacrament of marriage with Mary! So, he knows Mary! He protected Jesus and Mary several times. You know in the Gospel. And therefore, Mary here together with her Son Jesus, is making an incredible work of evangelization for mankind, for the world. There are saving plans for the whole world here in Medjugorje! So, we have to entrust Medjugorje to St. Joseph!

We have to understand that this is an important step to take, so that he may protect and guide as a father, in the father role. We should especially pray every day for Archbishop Henryk Hoser. He is the bishop that the Holy Father has entrusted Medjugorje to, that he may be enlightened, that he may always be as wise as St. Joseph, and he will protect the creature of Mary in a certain way because she is working here most extraordinarily.

So, let’s call upon St. Joseph as he was introduced into the mystery of God like no one else, and he had such an important role to play that if he would have failed, the whole history of redemption would have stopped, would not have been accomplished. His role was so important!!

But now Mary says, “Your role! You can’t imagine the greatness of your role!” Therefore, she calls us to collaborate with her totally. To give ourselves totally into her hands. To be docile to the Holy Spirit, who wants to guide us into prayer on the way of holiness. Into oneness with Christ.

Therefore, let us call upon Him right in the beginning of Holy Mass, as we do always. For without Him there is nothing good that we can do. Nothing good in the sense of how God understands good. That perfection to which He calls us.

Come, Holy Spirit, come in my heart. Sweet Holy Spirit, fill with your love….
Come, Holy Spirit, come in my heart. Sweet Holy Spirit, fill with your love….
Alleluia, Alleluia…. Alleluia, Alleluia.  (Fr. Maximilian Dalva)

Thank you, Fr. Max. Your words have ignited a fire! I feel the deep need for St. Joseph now, in every aspect of my life, and especially in the work of Mary TV.

Dear St. Joseph, guide us and protect us, intercede for us and watch over us as we serve Our Lady in her plans in Medjugorje. May we be only and always a help to her.

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

The $100,000 Baby

by Kallie Fell, CBC Research Associate

A report on: The One Hundred Thousand Dollar Baby: The Ideological Roots of a New American Export

fake $100,000 bill with baby in center

What would you think if America’s favorite marketplace, Amazon, started selling babies to men and women who genuinely desired, with all of their heart and souls, to become parents? These are good people who would treat their purchases like family, for a lifetime.

What do you think? Do you think this is absurd? Should markets exist where men, women, and couples have the opportunity to buy parentage? What if these markets already exist? In his newest publication, The One Hundred Thousand Dollar Baby: The Ideological Roots of a New American Export, David Smolin, claims that they already do.

In his article, Smolin boldly states that America is “actively building worldwide markets in children” and “a primary present manifestation of this worldwide market is surrogacy.” We at the Center for Bioethics and Culture agree. The main purpose of David’s publication is to elucidate the mainstreaming and promotion of markets in children and to encourage readers to research and resist such markets.

David’s article starts with an important review of the law and economics argument for markets and parental rights and how artificial reproductive technologies, like surrogacy, contribute to the acceptability of this argument. David writes, “what was once perceived as radical has become increasingly plausible.”

How Did We Get Here?

So how did we go from radical to plausible? David answers this question by pointing to the left. He states that the “political, legal, and cultural left in the United States has long critiqued the ‘traditional patriarchal family’ bound together by heterosexual marriage and biological relationship” and the result has looked for ways of “decoupling sexual activity from pregnancy, pregnancy from birth, and biological procreation from social and legal parenthood.” The goal, David writes, “is to make procreation a choice unbounded by biology.”

The right to procreate then is “conceptualized as a right to a child, or at least the means of obtaining a child” and where there is a right, there is a law to accommodate it. Unfortunately, states like California have bought into this ideology and have successfully mainstreamed the one hundred-thousand-dollar baby. David writes, “the expression ‘one hundred thousand dollar baby’ aptly describes the California surrogacy industry, and indeed the industry where practiced throughout the United States. Cost estimates of a California surrogacy are in the range of $90,000 to $145,000, and so the expression may be conservative.”

David continues his paper by exposing the surrogacy industry in California, the United States, and beyond. Financially speaking, the United States is on the high-end of the surrogacy market, but still seems to be an attractive option to intended parents due to the deceptive perception that the United States has “stable legal systems explicitly supportive of commercial surrogacy” and is “well-regulated and trouble-free.” Under this charade, the American surrogacy industry advocates for global markets in children, even though experts and councils from other nations view surrogacy markets as explicit baby selling and child trafficking.

After reading David’s publication, it is clear that California, and America at-large, are “willing to allow practices that risk the life and health of surrogate mothers, and even the resulting children, if it serves the interests of the customer, the intending parents, and the intermediaries who profit from surrogacy” and are “willing to place women’s bodies under the dominion of intending parents and the industry.”

Resistance is Not Futile

So what can we do? David ends his publication with a crucial call to action; a call for resistance. His call to resistance is both beautifully and powerfully written, so I’ll leave his words here:

Resistance is not futile because there is something in human beings that wishes to perceive values beyond self-interest, market-variations, and economic benefit in themselves, others, and their most personal relationships. Indeed, resistance is not futile because most human beings are repulsed by primarily market understandings of family formation and parent child relationships…

If resistance were futile, jurisdictions that once were global centers for commercial surrogacy, such as Cambodia, India, Nepal, Thailand, and the Mexican state of Tabasco would not have chosen to limit foreign commercial surrogacies conducted within their territories. If resistance was futile, Sweden would not be actively considering a ban on surrogacy…

Resistance to markets in children will require exposing inappropriate rights and equality claims for what they are, which is the reduction of the conception and value and dignity of the human person. Resistance to markets in children will require courage precisely because there are good reasons for such markets, but of course, not good enough reasons to justify such a fundamental violation of human dignity.

We are thankful for David Smolin and his work. We are thankful to each of you who are interested in our work. Do you have courage to help us resist and #StopSurrogacyNow?

David Smolin is a professor of law at Samford University and is considered an expert in bioethics and biotechnology issues, reproductive constitutional issues, international children’s issues, as well as family law.

A grain of hope and faith…
(c) Anthony Zubac 2019

January 30, 2019

Dear Family of Mary!

“Therefore, in the warmth of your heart, may a grain of hope and faith grow and you, little children, will from day to day feel the need to pray more…”

It doesn’t take much. God can work with a very small “yes”, a tiny glimmer of hope, a miniscule opening to faith. It isn’t necessary that we understand the whole Bible, or grasp the theology of St. Thomas, for our faith to begin and grow. All it takes is a grain of faith, a grain of hope. As Jesus told us:

And he said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.” (Mark 4:30-32)

When God reveals Himself to someone, He doesn’t give that person the entire plan for their life in one moment. The first encounter will more likely be a brief but powerful flash of light, or confirmation of His presence. It is in such moments that the seeds of faith and hope are planted in the very heart of a person. “God is real. God is a person. He loves me. I have met Him. He is calling me. I am not alone. Heaven is real.” These are the realities that change our hearts from cold and barren rocks into warm and fertile gardens. This is when the seeds of hope and faith are planted.

Our Lady understands this awakening of the heart. She wants us to experience this planting of the grains of faith and hope in our hearts. She wants us to encounter the Lord and let that encounter become a planting of faith and hope. She is with us in Medjugorje to help that process. She it is who comes to us first to warm our hearts with her love. We feel her motherly care which envelops us so gently. And our hearts begin to thaw. Our hearts begin to warm up, like the earth in the spring. Her love prepares the soil of our hearts to receive the grains of faith and hope that her Son will sew in them. Her warmth makes us warm. And then the miracle begins.

The tiny seeds of faith and hope can take root in our hearts because they are readied. When we encounter Jesus, in a flash of insight and love, the seeds will enter our hearts and take root. This is when the Kingdom begins to grow in us. And, oh the wonders that ensue. Families are healed, vocations are discovered, good works abound, all the characteristics of the Kingdom emerge, each in its kind. All it takes is a tiny glimmer of hope or a miniscule opening to faith. A small word from Jesus, a gesture, a gazing into His eyes is all it may take. And the encounter will have happened, and the seeds will have been planted.

But none of these things will grow without prayer. The planting is only the beginning. It is in our relationship to Jesus, through prayer, that the glimmer becomes Mary’s Meals or Rachel’s Vineyard, or countless other blessed works.

May we cherish those grains we receive from Jesus for we will thank Him for eternity. Our little tiny “yes” now will become something amazing in time, as we pray. And all will rejoice!

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

New York’s New Abortion Law Really Does Allow Abortions Up to Birth, Here’s How

Catholic Hospital Denied “Futile” Patient Food and Water for Nearly Three Weeks

Faith holds her nine-month-old baby Rose in her arms.
“Right now, we are surviving by the mercy of God’s love.”
Faith lives with her family in a very remote and impoverished village in Kenya. Last year, when she was pregnant with her seventh child, her husband became very ill. They used the little money they had to get him treatment, but in the end, it wasn’t enough. He died weeks before the birth and never got to meet his baby girl, Rose.

Overcome with grief, Faith said through tears, “I don’t know what I will do. My children are hungry and sick. We are so far from the hospital and I spent so much of the little we had trying to help my husband get well. Now, I spend most of my time trying to find food for my children. Right now we only eat once a day. What will happen to them?”

Faith with her family in front of their home in Kenya.
“If today I can get a donkey I would work tirelessly for my children without depending on anyone else.” – Faith
Without access to enough food, safe water and regular health check-ups, Faith’s children are all at risk of becoming malnourished and sick. For her youngest children, like baby Rose, 2-year-old Judy, and 4-year-old Lucia, the impact could be devastating and irreversible.

Faith wants her children to be healthy and happy and to be able to provide for them. But for vulnerable families living in extreme poverty, like Faith’s, the loss of a spouse is a challenge that can seem impossible to overcome, with dire consequences for the entire family.

You can help. A gift of $100, $200, $500, or any amount, will mean improved access to nutrition, quality healthcare, and medicines for vulnerable mothers and children. Your compassion and generosity can offer relief for families like Faith’s who are living in extreme poverty.

In what will go down as the most memorable moment in the history of the Walk for Life West Coast,  seven pregnant women and their unborn children ascended the stage, put microphones to their bellies, and filled San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza with sounds of tiny heartbeats.

The heartbeats were a repudiation of the Culture of Death, exemplified by the state of New York’s legalization of the murder of such children up to the moment of birth.

The heartbeats brought an unprecedented response from the tens of thousands of pro-lifers who overflowed the plaza, and even shook the organizers. “I had tears in my eyes,” said Walk for Life co-chair Eva Muntean.

Photographs showing some attendees wiping their eyes, while others were moved to elation. The online comments about the experience included “amazing”…”awesome”… “beautiful”… ”fantastic,” and “Fue el sonido más hermoso que escuche” (“The most beautiful sound I ever heard”).

The day began with Mass celebrated by Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone at St. Mary’s Cathedral. He was joined by ten fellow bishops, and many priests. The Mass was one of a number of Masses which qualified for a plenary indulgence decreed by the Vatican. This is the first time such an indulgence had been decreed. The archbishop imparted a papal blessing from Pope Francis on those in attendance. Archbishop Cordileone gave the invocation opening the Walk for Life rally.

Two of the pregnant mothers were speakers at the rally: former Planned Parenthood employees Abby Johnson and Patricia Sandoval. Both women walked away from their jobs at Planned Parenthood and are now among the most articulate pro-life advocates in the country. Johnson’s first book, Unplanned, has been made into a motion picture to be released this March.

Walk co-chair Dolores Meehan presented the St. Gianna Molla award to pro-life heroism to Mrs. Chastidy Ronan, former executive director of San Francisco’s Alpha Pregnancy Center. Meehan recalled how she had first met Chastidy at a fundraiser in a church basement and how she was won over by her warmth, humor, and commitment to helping women in need. A cancer sufferer, Chastidy told the story of how she came to Alpha as a troubled young mother, became a volunteer and the center’s executive director. The “little fundaisers” are now held in the event center of San Francisco’s St. Mary’s Cathedral.

Other speakers included Father Shenan Bouqet of Human Life International, who gave an overview of the pro-life movement, the challenges faced, and urged the Walk for Life West Coast to try and grow as large as its big sister, the March for Life in Washington D.C. The final speaker was the Reverend Walter Hoye of Oakland who recounted the words that earned him a 30-day sentence in the Santa Rita jail: “God loves you and your baby. Let us help you.”

At 1:30 walkers left the Civic Center Plaza to head down Market Street to the Ferry Building. The local CBS affiliate KPIX estimated the crowd at 50,000. Counter-protestors this year were the smallest number ever, no more than 25-30 people. Walkers came from all over the western United States and as far away as Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, and even the island of Fiji. Students For Life groups from UC Berkeley, UC Davis, San Jose State, and Stanford (among others) came plus Catholic colleges  including Wyoming Catholic College and Thomas Aquinas College, who sent over 200 students. .

But certainly this Walk for Life West Coast will be remembered for the tiny heartbeats.
