Sixteen States Tell Supreme Court: Uphold Ban on Abortions After 20 Weeks
A group of 16 states have filed briefs with the U.S. Supreme Court this week that encourage the high court to reverse a federal appeals court decision overturning a ban the state of Arizona passed to ban abortions after 20 weeks because unborn children feel pain.

The states are among the parties that filed briefs asking the high court to reverse a U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit decision against an Arizona law restricting non-emergency abortions after 20 weeks. Arizona legislators enacted the law based on evidence that shows children experience pain beginning at least at that stage and that women can experience increased physical risk and significant psychological trauma from late-term abortions. http://www.lifenews.com/2013/10/31/sixteen-states-tell-supreme-court-uphold-ban-on-abortions-after-20-weeks/

Pro-Lifers Set Up Hundreds of Crosses at U.S. Capitol to Remember Aborted Babies
The lawn outside the U.S. Capitol has been adorned with hundreds of crosses to remember the 56 million babies abortion has victimized since Roe v. Wade in 1973.

Today, Students for Life of America and the Christian Defense Coalition are holding the “Exposing the Abortion Trifecta” activism event and press conference on Capitol Hill. The activism event includes a display of 915 “Pink” crosses on the lawn of the Capitol Building. The 915 crosses honor the 915 preborn babies Planned Parenthood aborts daily nationwide. http://www.lifenews.com/2013/10/31/pro-lifers-set-up-hundreds-of-crosses-at-u-s-capitol-to-remember-aborted-babies/

Baby Samuel: Only Alive for 24 Hours But Every Hour Was a Blessing
Baby Samuel was the recipient of prayers from tens of thousands of people in the last 24-48 hours. The tiny baby from Charleston, South Carolina Polycystic Kidney Disease, whom doctors diagnosed after he was rushed by ambulance to the hospital.

Doctors told Samuel’s mother and father the baby would die within five minutes of the umbilical cord being cut. Life in the womb had safely kept her baby alive. From there, it was truly in God’s hands. http://www.lifenews.com/2013/10/31/baby-samuel-only-alive-for-24-hours-but-every-hour-was-a-blessing/

Mother Who Didn’t Know She Was Pregnant Gave Birth, Threw Baby in Dumpster
The rash of infanticides Americans are seeing across the country continues — this time in Wisconsin. According to a local media report, a 33-year-old woman who did not know she was pregnant gave birth, wrapped the baby in a plastic bag and threw the infant in the dumpster.

WSAW has more information on what happened. http://www.lifenews.com/2013/10/31/mother-who-didnt-know-she-was-pregnant-gave-birth-threw-baby-in-dumpster/

Bill Banning Late-Term Abortions After 20 Weeks Heads to the Senate
A long-time pro-life member of the Senate will introduce a bill next week that bans abortions from after 20-weeks of pregnancy up to the day of birth.

In June, the House approved the legislation and the vote for the bill broke down on mostly partisan lines with Republicans supporting the ban on late-term abortions and Democrats opposing it. Leading pro-life organizations issued statements praising the House for the vote. http://www.lifenews.com/2013/10/31/bill-banning-late-term-abortions-after-20-weeks-heads-to-the-senate/

Chinese Village on “Lockdown” After Couple Reveals Officials Abducted Their “Illegal” Baby
The Chinese people have been dealing with a wide range of human rights abuses associated with the one-child policy in China. Whether it’s forced abortions or sterilizations, loses of jobs or government benefits, labor camps, prison sentences or home detention — those who violate the policy have illegal children face the kind of ramifications most people will never experience who have a child anywhere else in the world.

Now, because a couple in one village dared to speak out about how family planning officials confiscated their “illegal” child, their entire village is on lockdown. http://www.lifenews.com/2013/10/31/chinese-village-on-lockdown-after-couple-reveals-officials-abducted-their-illegal-baby/

Finally… moral, pro-life fiction that opens hearts and minds! “This is what I was hoping would begin to spring from the Indie World. No way would NYC Corporate Publishing ever allow something with this worldview through.” – a reader.

Sebelius Hosted Event for Late-Term Abortionist, Yes She Knows if Obamacare Funds Abortions
Yesterday, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius appeared before the House Energy and Commerce Committee and testified under oath that she did not know if Obamacare paid for abortions. Can we seriously believe that?

We know Sebelius to be a radical abortion activist who, as Kansas Governor, invested the better part of her two terms covering up criminal abortions and blocking legislation that would have supplied oversight to abortionists who were running amok over the health and safety of women. http://www.lifenews.com/2013/10/31/sebelius-hosted-event-for-late-term-abortionist-yes-she-knows-if-obamacare-funds-abortions/

Obamacare Enrollees Already Seeing How New Plans Will Ration Their Health Care
As Americans engage in the increasingly frustrating process of attempting to enroll in health plans in new health care exchanges, many are finding their alternatives limited to cut-rate plans that allow them to see only narrow groups of health care providers that exclude the best specialists and health care centers. http://www.lifenews.com/2013/10/31/obamacare-enrollees-already-seeing-how-new-plans-will-ration-their-health-care/

Actress Molly Ringwald Endorses Wendy Davis for “Governor of Houston, Texas”

Writer of “The Exorcist” Says Kathleen Sebelius’ Abortion Support is “Demonic”
Kathleen Sebelius made national headlines yesterday by saying she didn’t know which Obamacare plans would force Americans to pay for abortions with their taxpayer dollars. It wasn’t the first time she has supported abortion — as Sebelius has a longstanding history of supporting late-term abortion practitioners in her home state of Kansas. http://www.lifenews.com/2013/10/31/writer-of-the-exorcist-says-kathleen-sebelius-abortion-support-is-demonic/

Adult Stem Cell Research Has Defeated Embryonic Stem Cells for Funding Priorities

Pope Francis has been persistently reminding us as disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ to preach the Good News wherever we may be. The initial conversation about salvation, he tells us, begins with an encounter with Jesus who reveals the love and mercy of the Father. For most people, even many Christians, a personal, intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ simply doesn’t exist.

Because I spend so much time in airports and planes, and because I wear the collar of a priest, I have many opportunities to speak about Jesus and His Church. This has happened while waiting to board a plane, walking between gates, sitting in an airport restaurant or waiting to collect my luggage. While studying to be a priest, I never imagined my “pulpit” would be so unconventional.

As you would expect I meet a wide variety of people in these situations, and many aren’t Christians. People may not even know that they are searching or what they are searching for, but their questions and comments speak volumes about their situations, beliefs and pain.

Once on a return flight from Rome, I spent nearly ten hours speaking to a very curious non-baptized woman about the Church’s teaching on baptism, chastity, marriage, divorce, contraception, abortion, homosexuality and the pope. On another occasion, when traveling to Eastern Europe, two flight attendants (male and female) approached me and asked if I could speak with them later during the flight. At three in the morning they sat at my feet in the aisle asking questions about the Sacrament of Marriage and the steps necessary to get married.

Outreach Tour Continues at Otterbein University

Columbus, OH – October 31, 2013 – Are we all created equal? Or do some humans have greater value than others? Day 3 of Created Equal‘s latest tour brought our team to Otterbein University. Upon seeing images of the victims, protesters mobilized—a couple of which were even brazen enough to pose for photos next to images of the dismembered children.

Snapshots: Otterbein University

One of the protesters commented to our outreach team, “Women are more important than fetuses,” providing excellent insight into the worldview of abortion advocacy.

Honest abortion advocates will concede the humanity of the preborn fetus—and yet they defend killing her. Why? As overheard at Otterbein, they actually deny the notion that all humans are equal. They believe the mother has greater value than the young human inside her.

What do you think? If you agree with us that all humans are equal, will you partner with us to expose the prejudice and stand for equality on campus?

STUDENT LEADERS ARE COMING FORWARD READY FOR ACTION. WILL YOU HELP US EQUIP THEM? YOUR GIFT OF $5, $20, $40, OR $60 PROVIDES TOOLS TO ENABLE THEM TO BEGIN THEIR OWN OUTREACH.

40 Days for Life

Dear Deacon John,

Autumn usually means beautiful days and crisp evenings. But during the last week of the campaign, it can get downright chilly in many North American locations – with some already getting snow!

Of course, weather has never deterred faithful volunteers from going to the vigil and warming the front lines with the love of Christ.

Colorado Springs, Colorado

At the invitation of Catholic Bishop Michael Sheridan of Colorado Springs, 40 Days for Life national director David Bereit was keynote speaker at a large respect life dinner with 700 attendees.

During his talk, David encouraged the guests to join him on the sidewalk outside the Planned Parenthood abortion center … and more than 100 people braved the chilly mountain air to participate in a 40 Days for Life candlelight vigil.

The campaign itself has seen many blessings.

“A few days ago, we learned of a young, pregnant woman who was in need of a place to live,” said Michele in Colorado Springs. “Numerous families came forward wanting to help and offer their homes.”

This reminded her of the early Christians and how they gave all they had to help others less fortunate. “God is bringing us back to the basics,” she said, “loving and taking care of each other, and it is truly beautiful to see!”

Calgary, Alberta

One of the volunteers in Calgary had a chance to show the warmth of Christ’s love to a man who sounded like he really needed it.

She was praying on the sidewalk with a sign that read “you are loved” when a truck pulled over … and a man started cursing at her. “So all life is precious?” he bellowed.

“Yes,” the volunteer answered.

“Even an unwanted kid in foster care who is facing a lifetime of poverty?” he shouted back.

“Yes. Absolutely,” she responded. “Their life is precious.”

He continued cursing while he questioned her. “The abused? Children conceived by rape? Children whose parents use drugs? The unwanted? The neglected? Are they all precious?”

“I couldn’t stop smiling as he questioned me because it felt like he was preaching a sermon,” she said. “After each scenario, I answered affirmatively. YES, the disabled! YES, the unplanned! YES! Amen and amen! Each life is indeed precious.”

Here’s today’s devotional from Carmen Pate of Truth in Action Ministries.

Day 37 intention

Pray that we will each submit ourselves this day as a living sacrifice to God, giving all that we have in us for those being sacrificed on the altar of convenience.

Scripture

I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

— Romans 12:1

Reflection by Carmen Pate

Since all things are for His glory, we are to offer ourselves for that purpose. This of course is in sharp contrast to those who are being swayed by the enemy to sacrifice their babies on the altar of convenience, rather than choosing to surrender their all, including their unborn child, to the Lord for His purposes.

A career, education goals, or even a boyfriend can unknowingly become an idol for some young women. In their minds, abortion is a convenient way to “rid themselves” of an obstacle in the way of their “worship.”

In light of the sacrifice Christ made on our behalf, and the fruit of God’s mercies on our lives, we owe God our highest form of praise and worship. Presenting our bodies as living sacrifices is therefore reasonable service.

We were made to worship God and God alone. The enemy who seeks worship for himself distorts God’s truth regarding worship, sacrifice, idols, and children.

As you have given of yourself to rescue those who are perishing — the young woman and her child — you are worshiping God in the truest sense of the word.

May your example lead an abortion minded client to turn from her idols to worship the one true God, sparing her child from the altar of convenience, and sparing herself from a lifetime of regret.

Prayer

God Almighty, You alone are worthy of our praise and worship. Having accepted Your Son’s sacrifice on my behalf, I in turn present my body to you as a living sacrifice. Thank you for deeming me holy and acceptable because of Christ’s shed blood for me.

I pray that you would use me as your vessel to rescue others who are perishing. Through Christ who is Our Glory, Amen.

Jesus is our light
(c)Mary TV 2013

J.M.J.

October 31, 2013

Dear Family of Mary!

“Dear children! Today I call you to open yourselves to prayer. Prayer works miracles in you and through you. Therefore, little children, in the simplicity of heart seek of the Most High to give you the strength to be God’s children and for Satan not to shake you like the wind shakes the branches. Little children, decide for God anew and seek only His will – and then you will find joy and peace in Him. Thank you for having responded to my call.” (October 25, 2013)

Our Lady knows that we face many challenges in our lives. She understands the spiritual battle we are in. Satan is merciless, and attacks us at every turn, trying to make us take our eyes off of Jesus and instead make us look at his evil deeds and quake with fear. He wants to shake us like branches in the wind. He wants us to lose heart, to panic. Our Lady knows this. And so she has come to help us to defeat Satan. She has come to help us keep our eyes firmly fixed on God.

“Little children, decide for God anew and seek only His will…” Our safety lies in seeking only God, in desiring only God’s will for our lives, in choosing to be God’s children no matter what. St. Faustina wrote a beautiful prayer that expresses this firmness of faith and commitment that Our Lady desires for us. Let’s pray them with confidence and peace. God is our Father and our Hope:

1322    The barque of my life sails along

Amid darkness and shadows of night,

And I see no shore;

I am sailing the high seas.

The slightest storm would drown me,

Engulfing my boat in the swirling depths,

If You Yourself did not watch over me, O God,

At each instant and moment of my life.

Amid the roaring waves

I sail peacefully, trustingly,

And gaze like a child into the distance without fear,

Because You, O Jesus, are my Light.

Dread and terror is all about me,

But within my soul is peace more profound than the depths of the sea,

            For he who is with You, O Lord, will not perish;

Of this Your love assures me, O God.

Though a host of dangers surround me,

None of them do I fear, for I fix my gaze on the starry sky,

And I sail along bravely and merrily,

As becomes a pure heart.

And if the ship of my life sails so peacefully,

This is due to but one thing above all:

You are my helmsman, O God.

This I confess with utmost humility.

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
