From 40 Days For Life: DAY 27: No emotional attachments, please

image

Deacon John,

So far during this 40 Days for Life campaign, we’ve learned of …

251 babies (that we know of) whose mothers turned around at the last minute and chose life!

We have a story today about a Planned Parenthood location that would not tell a mother who was 17 weeks along whether she was having a boy or a girl.

They’ll do anything they can to dehumanize the child in the womb. Any suggestion that there’s a real person there is to be avoided at all costs.

Here’s an example.

image
image

Manhattan, New York

The 40 Days for Life volunteers in Manhattan learned that a couple had scheduled an abortion at Planned Parenthood.

The Planned Parenthood staff told this young woman she was 17 weeks pregnant – but they wouldn’t tell her the baby’s gender. “They said it may make her emotionally attached to the baby,” said Ingrid, the 40 Days for Life coordinator. “Unbelievable.”

One of the sidewalk counselors was able to speak to the couple, and they agreed to go see the Sisters of Life. “They weren’t sure what to expect,” Ingrid said, “but she was happy to see them and told them that she was choosing life.”

Bishop Peter Byrne and members of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal took time to pray at the vigil. They were especially encouraged by a man who passed by and called out, “Stay strong!”

Another man stopped on his bike to tell vigil participants that his dad was a drug dealer and his mother wanted to have an abortion, but she chose life. “Thank you!” he said. “You are fighting for me!”

image

Altamonte Springs, Florida

“Thanks be to God!” said one of the 40 Days for Life team members in Altamonte Springs, one of three vigil sites in the Orlando area.

When they arrived at the abortion center, a young couple seemed determined to have an abortion. Nevertheless, they accepted an offer of a free ultrasound at Life Choices, the life-affirming pregnancy help center right next door.

“They were still sure abortion was the right step,” the 40 Days for Life volunteer said. “But when they saw their sweet baby’s image, though, they couldn’t go through with it. God is good – and your prayers are powerful!”

image

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

There are two 40 Days for Life vigils in Philadelphia … and each site got some encouraging news about abortion center clients who were redirected to life-affirming resources.

A prayer volunteer spoke with a young woman at one of the abortion facilities. She had gone there to set up a pregnancy test. But when she went inside to talk to the abortion center’s staff, she was told they only help people who would want an abortion if the test is positive.

“When I called the pregnancy help center,” the team member said, “they were thrilled to contact her and set her up with an appointment.”

At the other Philadelphia vigil, one of the volunteers was able to speak to a young woman and direct her away from the abortion facility. She, too, ended up at the pregnancy help center. Both the help center’s staff and the young woman have confirmed that she has chosen life for her baby.

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

— Philippians 2:5-8

O Lord, help us follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Let us humbly and diligently work to restore legal protection for the unborn, the disabled, the medically dependent and all innocent children of God whose lives are threatened. Let us remember the old adage that “He can never lead who has not first learned to obey.” And, Lord, grant us a peaceful heart as we labor in your name.

Why these women skipped out on surgical abortion day – 27 Mar 2017

California Catholic Daily

Dear Reader,

Why these women skipped out on surgical abortion day: Halfway through 40 Days for Life: four women walk out of abortion clinic and into Turning Point Pregnancy Resource Center

The pro-life Turning Point Pregnancy Resource Center in San Diego is right next door to Family Planning Associates, an abortion clinic.

Report from the third week of March, 2017

We are halfway the Spring campaign of 40 Days for Life. Prayers on abortion day really do make a difference. Last week at FPA on Tuesday, which is surgical abortion day, 4 women who had appointments at FPA walked out and went into Turning Point Pregnancy Resource Center, which is located next door to the abortion clinic.

Two of the women had medical situations and were referred to medical professionals. A third woman asked if she could come into Turning Point without an appointment, and was welcomed in, given a pregnancy test, and will be returning for an ultrasound.

The fourth woman was about to have an abortion at FPA, but wasn’t sure, and walked out. She saw the pregnancy resource center next door, and walked in. After receiving counseling and medical services, she has decided to keep her baby!

Please keep up the prayers. For those of you praying at Family Planning Associates on Miramar Road, we have signs out in front of the clinic on Tuesday mornings (surgical abortions), Thursday mornings (chemical abortions), and Saturdays, for those people who want to support public witness with their prayers, but can’t make it during the week.

Your prayers are making a difference. See the links below for locations.

Mary TV March 27, 2017 Reflection – The man born blind…

(c)Mateo Ivankovic 2017

J.M.J.

March 27, 2017

Dear Family of Mary!

“Dear children! In this time of grace, I am calling all of you to open your hearts to God’s mercy, to begin a new life through prayer, penance and a decision for holiness. This time of spring moves you to a new life, to a renewal, in your thoughts and hearts. Therefore, little children, I am with you to help you to say ‘yes’ to God and to God’s commandments with resoluteness. You are not alone; I am with you through the grace which the Most High gives me for you and your descendants. Thank you for having responded to my call.” (March 25, 2017)

Our Lady calls us to begin a new life, to open our hearts to God’s mercy! The Gospel for the 4th Sunday of Lent was about the man born blind, and how Jesus gave him a whole new life when he gave him a new capacity for sight. We need to have such new sight in order to live our new life as well. Fr. Leon explained this process so well in his homily, that I had to transcribe it!

Fr. Leon Pereira’s homily for March 26, 2017 in Medjugorje:

The Gospel we heard does not tell the healing of a blind man as we find in the other Gospels, but of a man blind from birth. What’s the difference? I can imagine losing my sight. And though it is hard to appreciate the courage it would require to live in the world with the loss of what is so easily taken for granted. But how does a person born blind experience the world.   How does he imagine the other things perceived with the other senses? Things they have never seen or looked upon.

That the man in this Gospel is born blind is not a peripheral detail. He has not lost a capacity for light. He did not have it from the beginning. He does not deal with light, darkness, shadow and reflection. Jesus will not restore sight to this man. He will grace him with a capacity that he never had.

This miracle does not point just to the restoration of our human nature, but also to its total recreation. It says, “Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind.” What Jesus is to do will bear resonance on the very beginning of creation. He will reach into the very origins of human beings, and do something that has never been done before. He will restore their capacity for the light which shines in the darkness.

Just as God made man from the dust of the ground, so Jesus makes the man who was born blind receive his sight through the dust of the Jerusalem street and forms him anew. Just as the first man, Adam, received the breath of life and became a living being, so this man is anointed with dust mixed with spittle from the mouth of Jesus, and becomes transformed beyond recognition.

His neighbors will ask of him, “Is this the man who used to sit and beg in our street?” As Jesus was manifested after his Resurrection, the man born blind, once he has his sight is not easy to recognize. So deep and profound is the transformation that has happened to him.

Now up until this time the man born blind is passive, he is a passive witness in the whole story. He is almost like the earth in Genesis, “formless and void.” But now he has found his voice, he begins to speak for himself. His parents refuse to answer him. His present state is different from anything he received from them.

This is like ourselves. You have children and you give them life, even though you know that life doesn’t come from you. And you bring them to church and have them Baptized, and they receive something they could never have received from you – eternal life! And later when they grow up and they are confirmed, they answer for themselves, just like the man born blind.

And the man born blind answers the questions of the Pharisees. Because with his sight he has an increase in insight into who Jesus is, without yet having seen Jesus. So the man who owes his new being not to his parents, or to his pedigree in the law of Moses, but to the sudden unearned gift of the encounter with Jesus. Falling down to worship Jesus, he recognizes Him not just as the source of his sight, but more importantly as the origin of a whole new way of being.

In Jesus, we are elevated to a new life. As the man born blind received a new capacity, a new way of experiencing the world, so too do we receive a new capacity for a deeper way of life. To come to experience the material world all around us in the unfamiliar light of Jesus who is forever the light of the world.

When we say the things we say, like “Our Father”, this is one of the most extraordinary things we can say. Not simply because God is a father to us and we think we have a personal relationship with Him. But because when we say, “Our Father” it is literally true. God is not our father in a metaphorical sense alone, He really is our Father. We who are the creatures of his hand who never deserved anything from Him, who are made simply out of love, He makes his children, and by the Holy Spirit raises up to be friends with God. This is absolutely extraordinary!

If we are friends of God, then everything we do in the world is suddenly different.  You see, sin is easy.  And sin is boring.  Everything under the sun is a repetition of what has come before.  We only take a mishmash of old stuff and put it in new configurations, and make what we think are new sins.  But they are the same old stuff.  The only thing that is new is the thing that comes from beyond the sun.  The Son of God Himself!  And if He gives us life, we truly have new life.

Our first parents in the Garden had their eyes opened when they sinned.  They saw how far we had fallen from God.  They saw their nakedness and they were ashamed.  But we have our eyes opened in a new way, just as the disciples at Emmaus.   When they saw the Lord in the Scriptures and in the breaking of bread, and then they recognized Him.  And we perceive the new clothing of our humanity is with the Divine nature.

These are not metaphors I’m using.  I mean this literally.  We are clothed with Divine nature.  What does that mean?  Ponder it.  Because it’s the most extraordinary thing in the world.  We have received this new capacity for new life in our Baptism when the Lord Himself anointed us with His Holy Spirit.  But this capacity in us weakens through sin.

Original sin is a bit like a straw.  If you bend it and it has a kink in it, it will always tend to bend in the same place again.  And so although our original sin is wiped away, that capacity, that tendency to sin remains in us, in the same place wherever that is for us.  And we therefore are more accustomed to darkness then to light.  And so each year we come back to this holy and joyful season of Lent when we open ourselves to the healing touch of Jesus, prepare ourselves once more by His grace to see the world anew in the blazing furnace of the Paschal fire.  A light lit in a darkened tomb two thousand years ago which will never more be put out.  Which cannot be overcome.  This is the new life we are given.  In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen

From 40 Days For Life: DAY 26: A little nudge from God

image

Deacon John,

While praying outside an abortion center can be a source of blessings … sometimes it’s just hard to get out of bed and go do it.

image

One of our 40 Days for Life campaign leaders shared a note from a volunteer that was overcome by a feeling of ambivalence about going to pray at Planned Parenthood.

This volunteer makes a note on her calendar on the days she’s scheduled for the vigil – PPP. It stands for “Pray at Planned Parenthood.” Remember that!

“So this particular day I was going to pray,” she said. “Driving, I found myself distracted, grumbling, questioning if it really makes a difference.”

Right about that time, a car cut right in front of her. She couldn’t help but notice the car’s license, which included the letters PPP – yes, the very same as her shorthand for “Pray at Planned Parenthood.”

“I was dumbfounded and overcome by a quiet conviction that God was speaking directly to me,” she said – at the very moment she needed “His gentle encouragement. God is good!”

This volunteer also recalled her own struggles. “I wish someone would have been there for me when I went for my abortion. It could have made all the difference. Even so, it makes a difference now.”

You can be the difference for someone. So go pray!

Virginia Beach, Virginia

“It was a cold and windy day — but a wonderful visit,” said Tibor Baksy, a 40 Days for Life board member, who prayed with 40 Days for Life volunteers in Virginia Beach.

“My daughter Isabel joined me and we met Cheri, the coordinator,” Tibor said.

“She just received news that the fourth baby has been saved since the spring campaign started. She continues to pray, hand out literature to mothers offering free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds … motivated by God’s call and her love of children.”

Tibor also met Pete, who has prayed outside abortion centers since 1973. “He shared a story of a mother coming up to him and telling him that her daughter decided to have her baby as the result of their presence and prayer. The mother is now a proud grandparent of a saved baby.”

As for the latest mother to choose life, Cheri said the young woman was shocked when her pregnancy test showed positive … so she rushed to Planned Parenthood for another pregnancy test and to “make her decision about the pregnancy.”

Her biggest fear was how the father would take the news and feel about the baby. One of the volunteers said “he is shocked as well … but they will parent the baby.”

Des Moines, Iowa

North American campaign director Steve Karlen joined volunteers in Des Moines for their 40 Days for Life midpoint rally.

“Geneveve, the local leader, brought together a great group for the vigil—including three pastors,” Steve said. “We met at a local church, and the intention was to conduct a candlelight procession to Planned Parenthood. The strong winds blew out the candles, but the procession continued nevertheless.”

While in Des Moines, he learned that Iowa has closed more abortion businesses than any other state except Texas over the last few years. “The number of abortions has decreased by about 40% — from more than 6,000 to fewer than 4,000 — in the last decade.”

The Des Moines vigil takes place at Planned Parenthood of the Heartland’s flagship location in Des Moines.

The local volunteers reported that—in spite of the many abortion centers that have closed in Iowa—the parking lot doesn’t usually seem very busy,” Steve said — proof that “we can save lives and advance toward the end of abortion.”

These all wait for you, that you may give them their food in due season, what you give them they gather in; you open your hand they are filled with good. You hide your face, they are troubled; you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. You send forth your Spirit, they are created; and you renew the face of the earth.

Psalm 104:27-30

Beloved Father, remind us today that there is no truth but you. Do not let us fall prey to the evil one’s lie that we may choose death. Remind us right now that you, who created all life, are in control of all life, and let us know right now that you who created all life, are in control of all life, and let us choose life always. Keep lighting the pathway home, for us and for all who participate in this 40 Days for Life campaign.

Gov. Cuomo: Please Approve the New York ‘Choose Life’ License Plate

Gov. Cuomo: Stop Your Bigotry and Censorship and Approve the New York ‘Choose Life’ License Plate and the ‘911 Remembrance’ License Plate

Contact: Dr. Elizabeth Rex, The Children First Foundation, 914-629-3710
NEW YORK, March 25, 2017 /Christian Newswire/ — At 1:00 PM this afternoon at Federal Hall, our Nation’s first seat of government, beneath the Statue of President George Washington, our Founding Father and first President, Dr. Elizabeth Rex will hold a press conference to urge Governor Cuomo to finally lift the 2004 DMV moratorium that is blocking the approval of the “Choose Life” License Plate as well as the approval of the “911 Remembrance” License Plate.
Press Conference Details:
When: Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 1 PM
Where:  On the steps of Federal Hall, 26 Wall St, New York, NY
Dr. Elizabeth Rex, Co-Founder and President of The Children First Foundation will be among the hundreds of marchers gathering in Foley Square at 9 AM this morning to participate in the First Annual International Gift of Life Walk to celebrate the International Day of the Unborn Child established by St. Pope John Paul II on March 25th, the Ancient Feast Day of the Annunciation and the Incarnation of Jesus Christ, when the Word of God became Man and dwelt among us as a tiny child in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Following the International Gift of Life Walk, Dr. Rex will carry her “Choose Life” Banner and a replica of the banned New York “Choose Life” License Plate to the Statue of George Washington on the steps of Federal Hall. Dr. Rex will hold a Press Conference at 1:00 PM and urge Gov. Cuomo and his DMV Commissioner to stop their “patently offensive” censorship and bigotry and immediately lift the 2004 DMV Moratorium and approve their pro-adoption plate with he faces of two smiling children and the words “Choose Life” as well as hundreds of other blocked specialty plates, including the “911 Remembrance Plate” that Governor Pataki unconscionably vetoed just weeks before the 5th Anniversary of the September 11, 2006 due to his DMV Moratorium which was deliberately put in place on August 2, 2004 in order to block the approval of the New York “Choose Life” License Plate.

On this historic Day let us recognize that children, whether born or unborn, are persons who have been endowed by their Creator with inalienable rights and to reaffirm our commitment to the proposition that all men, women and children, born and unborn, have been created equal and deserve Equal Protection under the U.S. Constitution.

It is time to put “Children First” in New York State and to promote the positive and loving pro-life choices of Adoption and Safe Haven which are choices every New Yorker can and should support with the approval of the New York “Choose Life” License Plate.
