Ascension Thursday

(Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter in some Dioceses)

Dear Family of Mary!

Our Lady has often spoken to us of heaven. She wants us to desire heaven. She wants us to realize that heaven is real, and it is our true home. She asks us to live with our eyes on heaven, not on our temporal earthly reality.

When I think of the Ascension, I think of heaven. Jesus ascended into heaven in the presence of the Apostles and Disciples. His Mother Mary was among them. How that ascension must have pulled at her heart! Jesus was going back to the Father, to His heavenly home. She knew she would follow one day, but not yet. And so her heart must have been pulled in two. Only the Holy Spirit could have helped her to remain on earth, her love was so strong.

And now she is trying to communicate to us the same desire for heaven and for Jesus that she had at that moment, and has to this day. She wants us to identify with heaven as our true and only home. Listen to this message she gave in 1986:

“Dear children! Again today I call you to consecrate your life to me with love, so I am able to guide you with love. I love you, dear children, with a special love and I desire to bring you all to Heaven unto God. I want you to realize that this life lasts briefly compared to the one in Heaven. Therefore, dear children, decide again today for God. Only that way will I be able to show how much you are dear to me and how much I desire all to be saved and to be with me in Heaven. Thank you for having responded to my call.” (November 27, 1986)

Mother Mary wants to bring us all home. She has come for her children. She comes to shake us out of our earthly stupor, and get our eyes on our true home. She wants us to gaze upward, into the heavens where Jesus ascended, and to long for Him and for home! Heaven is our true home. In another message she told us:

“Dear children! Do not forget that you are here on earth on the way to eternity and that your home is in Heaven. That is why, little children, be open to God’s love and leave egoism and sin. May your joy be only in discovering God in daily prayer. That is why, make good use of this time and pray, pray, pray; and God is near to you in prayer and through prayer. Thank you for having responded to my call.” (July 25, 2000)

Clearly, she is calling us to long for home, and to live this life as a preparation for that life. On this Ascension, may we contemplate our Savior, rising on the clouds into heaven. Jesus has gone back to the Father, to prepare a place for us. Mother Mary has joined Him there, and she is now coming back to us to lead us there. If we live her messages, she will be able to lead us forward towards eternity in heaven with our God.

As Denis says every day on our Rosary, “Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!!!”

Dear Family of Mary!

“Dear children! Anew, I am calling you to love and not to judge. My Son, according to the will of the Heavenly Father, was among you to show you the way of salvation, to save you and not to judge you. If you desire to follow my Son, you will not judge but love like your Heavenly Father loves you. And when it is the most difficult for you, when you are falling under the weight of the cross do not despair, do not judge, instead remember that you are loved and praise the Heavenly Father because of His love. My children, do not deviate from the way on which I am leading you. Do not recklessly walk into perdition. May prayer and fasting strengthen you so that you can live as the Heavenly Father would desire; that you may be my apostles of faith and love; that your life may bless those whom you meet; that you may be one with the Heavenly Father and my Son. My children, that is the only truth, the truth that leads to your conversion, and then to the conversion of all those whom you meet – those who have not come to know my Son – all those who do not know what it means to love. My children, my Son gave you a gift of the shepherds. Take good care of them. Pray for them. Thank you.” (May 2, 2013)

This message through Mirjana is another lesson in the School of Mary. Our Lady has been teaching us how to become more and more like her Son, Jesus, for almost 32 years. Her school is free and open to the public. It is simple enough for the smallest child and yet exquisite enough for the greatest intellect. It contains very practical lessons, centered on the most common concepts, and yet her teachings can produce the most refined souls. Her methods are based on actions, like prayer, love, forgiveness, repentance, peacemaking, etc. But the results reach the deepest interior of the human person. And Our Lady, though the teacher, is not the only educator. She has a partner, a silent yet powerful person, the Holy Spirit. It is because she works in union with the Holy Spirit that her school is such a success!

The main topic for our lesson today from Mary’s School, is to love and not to judge. We are asked to do some self-examination. We are asked to uncover something in our relations with others. Do we love? Do we love like Jesus loves? And we are asked to uncover any tendency we may have to judge. Do we judge our neighbor? Do we hold our own opinions about others? Do we react to mistreatment with a judgment?

These questions are related. Our Lady wants us to love as Jesus loves. This means that we view others as Jesus would view them. We want their salvation. We want them to be blessed. We long for them to be united to the Heavenly Father. We desire their freedom from suffering, from sin, and from evil. We place ourselves at their service for these very reasons. This is the love Our Lady wants us to have.

And so we cannot judge. It says in the Merriam-Webster dictionary: “

To judge: to form an opinion about through careful weighing of evidence and testing of premises.” (Merriam-Webster) Note that forming such an opinion requires evidence and testing.  Judging requires facts.  Do we really have all the facts? In regards

to another person, and their life, probably we do not.  Only God knows all about each of our lives.  Even our parents don’t know us completely.  How then can we judge another?

We often put a negative connotation to “judging”. If we are judging it is assumed that we are condemning others. And though this is often the case, there is another side to judgment. We can place an inordinate value on others through our judgments. We can idolize or overly trust others because of our judgment. Either way, we are defining others with our judgment. And this is not commensurate with love. To love as Jesus loves, we set aside ourselves, and work for the welfare of the other. We don’t let any opinion we may have of that person interfere with our love for them. We simply desire their good. We can make judgments about evil or good actions, but even then we cannot draw a conclusion about the person. We must let God be the judge.

So in Our Lady’s School, we are to learn how to regard others with a holy respect and good will. We are to love them for their own sake, and not make judgments about them that would restrict or define them according to our own measurements. This is what Jesus said in Matthew’s Gospel: “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get.”  (Matt 7:1-2) What could Jesus mean by this, but that our own judgments of others place our souls in danger with God. Because if we judge, measure, value according to our own standards, we will be objectifying others and placing ourselves in an exalted position. This will lead us away from God and His plans for us to love. We will be putting ourselves in danger!

This lesson is a very challenging one for us. We probably all have habits of judging that happen within our thought life, almost unnoticed. But Our Lady wants us to clean up our thought life, and make it an avenue of grace for others. May we respond to this lesson with open hearts and learn to love as Jesus loves! Come Holy Spirit!

PS. On May 2, Mary TV streamed the apparition to Mirjana at the Blue Cross, live. We had unexpected technical difficulties, but the video was up for any who joined in that moment. We were able to post the video on our home page for subsequent viewing. Also, we were able to view a live camera feed from the top of the Mary TV building during our 10:00 am Rosary. We have had a burst of new possibilities for Mary TV this week, as our technical capacity grows! Thanks to all who join us! Please keep praying!

Mary TV Daily Reflection 4/19/2012

Mary Vitamin

Topic: How do we dedicate May to Mary?

Quote:
St. John Berchmans answers a similar question on his death bed,
“When this holy young man was dying his companions entreated him, before he left this world, to tell them what devotion they could perform which would be most agreeable to our Blessed Lady. He replied in the following remarkable words:
‘Any devotion, however small, provided it is constant.’
Glories of Mary, Tan Books, 592

Meditation:
St. Alphonsus di Liguori explains that the Hail Mary is the most pleasing to Our Lady,
This angelical salutation is most pleasing to the ever-blessed Virgin; for, whenever she hears it, it would seem as if the joy which she experienced when St. Gabriel announced to her that she was the chosen Mother of God, was renewed in her; and with this object in view, we should often salute her with the Hail Mary.
Glories Mary, Tan Books, 593.

Resolution:
Today, I will continue choose my special May devotions in honor of Our Lady.
Marian Vow:
St. Louis de Montfort
We must choose among all the devotions to the Blessed Virgin the one which will lead us more surely to dying to self.
True Devotion to Mary, #82

I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thanks be to God for graces received.

St. Joseph the Worker

Dear Family of Mary!

“Dear children! You are responsible for the messages. The source of grace is here, but you, dear children, are the vehicles transmitting the gifts. Therefore, dear children, I am calling you to work responsibly. Everyone will be responsible according to his own measure. Dear children, I am calling you to give the gift to others with love, and not to keep it for yourselves. Thank you for having responded to my call.”  (May 8, 1986)

This message conveys the reason why Mary TV exists.  We are trying to transmit the gifts of grace made available to all people through Our Lady of Medjugorje.  We want to give the gifts to all those who need them so much in these days.  But Mary TV has reached a critical moment, we need increased funding on a monthly basis, so that we can meet our commitments and continue to provide this amazing link with Medjugorje through the internet.

St. Joseph the Worker, pray for us!

“Keep praying until your heart opens in faith
as a flower opens to the warm rays of the sun!”

April 30, 2013

Dear Family of Mary!

“Dear children! Pray, pray, keep praying until your heart opens in faith as a flower opens to the warm rays of the sun. This is a time of grace which God gives you through my presence but you are far from my heart, therefore, I call you to personal conversion and to family prayer. May Sacred Scripture always be an incentive for you. I bless you all with my motherly blessing. Thank you for having responded to my call.” (April 25, 2013)

“As the flower is eager for the sun, so my heart is for You.” (St. Faustina, 1808 Diary) This is the kind of heart Our Lady is eager for us to have. She wants us to love her Son with every fiber of our being, to long for Him with every breath we take. That kind of love comes with time, as we get to know Him. Once we really know Him, we can’t help but to love Him.

Our Lady has suggested that we spend time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in order to get to know Him. She gave us excellent guidance in this process of getting to know Jesus in this message from 1995:

“Dear Children! Today I invite you to fall in love with the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Adore Him, little children, in your Parishes and in this way you will be united with the entire world. Jesus will become your friend and you will not talk of Him like someone whom you barely know. Unity with Him will be a joy for you and you will become witnesses to the love of Jesus that He has for every creature. Little children, when you adore Jesus you are also close to me. Thank you for having responded to my call.” (September 25, 1995)

“Jesus will become your friend…” Can we call Jesus our friend? Do we know Him that well? Have we spent the kind of time with Him that it takes to become friends? Does He know us through and through, and do we know Him that way too? Is Jesus the first person we go to with our joys, our sorrows, our ideas, and our hopes? Do we converse with Him? Can He count on us when He needs us? Do we turn to Him in need as well?

Time in Adoration, quiet time of being present to Jesus as He is present to us, is the way to become His friend. Time in Adoration is the way to bond with Jesus, to make ties of love. “Unity with him will be a joy for you…” As we adore Jesus, we become identified with Him, one of His number, one of His family. We live the bond of love with Jesus. And that unity brings with it the Kingdom of the Father. We begin to live as Jesus would have us live, and that means we begin to love. Jesus just sinks into our souls, as we adore Him.

Our Lady also told us:

“Dear children! I call you to work on your personal conversion. You are still far from meeting with God in your heart. Therefore, spend all the more time in prayer and Adoration of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar, for Him to change you and to put into your hearts a living faith and a desire for eternal life. Everything is passing, little children, only God is not passing. I am with you and I encourage you with love. Thank you for having responded to my call.” (March 25, 2008)

In Adoration, Jesus can change us and put into our hearts all that we need to become holy. Like flowers, we need to open to the rays of His love, and allow Him to change us with the raw power of His glory, present though hidden in the Blessed Sacrament.

Let’s pray for one another, that we can find more time to be with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament!  With His help we will find a way to become His friend!

St. Catherine of Siena

Thank you for having responded to my call.” (April 25, 2013 message)

I love the motherly urgency in this message. “Pray, pray, keep prayng until your heart opens in faith as a flower opens to the warm rays of the sun.” Pray, pray, keep praying… Mother Mary longs for us to “get it’. She longs for us to finally understand what she has come to teach us. How long will it take? “Pray, pray, keep praying…” This seems to be the answer to everything.

And it is. We have to keep trying to open our hearts to God. No matter what the day brings, no matter what our problems are, we must open our hearts to God in faith, as a flower responds to the sun. Why? Because our help comes only from the Lord. It does not come from our brilliance, our success, our financial planning, our worldly connections, or our education. It comes from God who made us and sustains us at every moment. And so we must open our hearts to Him, to receive our help, our sustenance, our courage, and our future!

St. Faustina was given the very same image of the flower and the sun, in her prayer with Jesus. She wrote in her Diary:

Today, I invite Jesus to my heart, as Love. You are Love itself. All heaven catches the flame from You and is filled with love. And so my soul covets You as a flower yearns for the sun. Jesus, hasten to my heart, for You see that, as the flower is eager for the sun, so my heart is for You. I open the calyx of my heart to receive Your love. (1808, Diary)

“As the flower is eager for the sun, so my heart is for You.” This holy eagerness comes from a life of prayer. St. Faustina understood how much she needed Jesus because she prayed constantly.

A side note, Denis and I are in Baltimore, visiting our son and his wife. We have had a wonderful time. Today we walked to his neighborhood church for Mass. It was an old Polish parish, very beautiful. I was drinking in the Mass, so thankful to be there. And as we were leaving, we saw a poster in the vestibule which told the story of the miraculous healing of Fr. Ron Pytel of Baltimore, Maryland. Fr. Ron was a former pastor of this little Polish parish, and while he was pastor, in 1995, he was very ill, with lung disease. He went to venerate St. Faustina’s relics, and was completely healed. His healing was the sign to the Vatican that they could proceed with the canonization of Faustina. As a result this little parish was designated the Shrine of Divine Mercy in the  Baltimore Diocese!! No wonder I was drinking in the graces at Mass!

Thank you, St. Faustina, for being our big sister, and teaching us so much about loving Jesus. May we all respond with the same eagerness that you had to the love of Jesus! May we be flowers that yearn for the sun!
