Dear Family of Mary!

“Dear children! I am calling you to be prayer in this time of grace. You all have problems, afflictions, sufferings and lack of peace. May saints be models to you and an encouragement for holiness; God will be near you and you will be renewed in seeking through your personal conversion. Faith will be hope to you and joy will begin to reign in your hearts. Thank you for having responded to my call.” (October 25, 2017)

“May the Saints be models to you and an encouragement for holiness…”

I am amazed at how helpful the saints can be. During our Daily Rosary, we have been receiving a saint each day, as a way to stay connected with heaven. We have a little box full of slips of paper, each with the name of a saint on it, and a little quote or description of the saint as well. It seems that the Lord sends us our daily saint very much with a purpose in mind.

For instance, on Saturday, October 28, we receive this saint:

St. John N Neumann, Bishop of Philadelphia – January 5
“Everyone who breathes, high and low, educated and ignorant, young and old, man and woman, has a mission, has a work. We are not sent into this world for nothing; we are not born at random; God creates every soul for a purpose. He needs, He deigns to need, every one of us. We are all equal in His sight, and we are placed in our different ranks and stations, not to get what we can out of them for ourselves, but to labor in them for Him. As Christ has His work, we too have ours; as He rejoiced to do His work, we must rejoice in ours also.”
Pray to understand God’s plan for your life.

I felt that this saint, and his words about each person being needed, were very important for me on Saturday. And the idea of each of us having a mission was just so powerful. It helped me to pray much more from that heart that day.

This is the grace of the saints. They encourage us. They teach us the way. They show us a little bit more about God each day!

So, as we approach All Saint’s Day on Wednesday, let’s renew our love for the saints and let them guide us! Mary TV has a small list of saints in PDF form on our website, and it is prepared as an aid for choosing saints for the year. Many people choose a saint for each year, and it can be done on All Saints Day, or on New Year’s Day. Whenever you feel led to choose a saint for the year. Just download the PDF and print it out. You can cut up the pages, set up in little squares, so that each saint can be chosen from the group during prayer.

Our shipmates, Ginna and David have updated our list. It will be posted soon, so you can get even more saints into the boat!

Here is the link:

May we allow the saints to teach us, lead us, and pray for us as we try to live the mission that each of us has been given by God. We are all very important to Him!

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

There’s just something about twins.

Even a woman who seems strongly determined to abort her baby can have a total change of heart when she hears it’s not one baby but two.

Some of our favorite 40 Days for Life stories are about mothers of twins who were “prayed out” of having an abortion. So today, here are two stories – about twins!

image

Cherry Hill, New Jersey

Some of the men at the 40 Days for Life vigil in Cherry Hill struck up a conversation with a young man whose girlfriend had an abortion appointment. She was 16 weeks pregnant … with twins.

After a while, the young woman came out of the abortion center and insisted she was going through with the abortion.

As she spoke to the volunteers, her concerns started to roll out. They already had a very young child. The place they lived was way too small. His job just didn’t provide enough money. She didn’t have a car. She’d made up her mind that abortion was her best choice.

Vigil participants offered to raise money to help meet their expenses. The father seemed encouraged and tried to get the mother to change her mind. But she went back into the abortion center.

image

At this point, a volunteer encouraged the dad to follow her in ‘and love her out of there” … telling her that he would do everything he could to be the best father possible.

When he went in, he found her dressed in a hospital gown for an abortion. “He had the courage to cause a scene!” the team member said. “He told her they should do the right thing and love their children.”

They came outside and said there would be no abortion. The offers of help continued to flow in. A man said he’d give them the car he was planning to sell. Another promised to go to his church for financial support.

Another volunteer exchanged phone numbers with the couple, and they hugged and left the abortion center. Later that day, the young man was offered the higher-paying job he had applied for.

“This story is a perfect example of how our peaceful presence at the abortion facility is essential,” the 40 Days for Life team member said. “God uses us as his hands and feet to help save children and spread His mercy.”

image

Spring Valley, New York

“A woman pulled into the parking lot behind our 40 Days for Life post and walked over to me,” said one of the volunteers in Spring Valley. “She wanted to thank me — and all of us who stand out here for life.”

Many years ago, she told him, she was planning to have an abortion. She had two kids and said things just weren’t right for having another child.

But someone was praying outside the building, and offered her information on her way in.

The abortion facility did an ultrasound exam, and showed her the image.

Twins!

With that, she read the information she was given … and got up and left. Her twins are now 24 years old.

“So uplifting a story!” said the 40 Days for Life volunteer. “It shows how God blesses our time for standing up for life!”

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor.

— Psalm 8:3-9

Lord, you are the creator of all things. Guide my thoughts to consider your creation in all of its majesty, beauty and holiness. Guide my heart especially to your creation of precious human life. Help me to comprehend how essential life is in your own heart. Teach me to appreciate, love and protect all human life.

In 2013 – after years of prayerful pro-life witness and seven 40 Days for Life campaigns – Planned Parenthood in Waco, Texas packed up and left town.

But this year, Planned Parenthood returned. And so did a powerful 40 Days for Life campaign!

I visited Waco, where the volunteers promised to keep going strong until the end of the campaign – and beyond. “We are not going away,” said John Pisciotta (above, right), who began leading 40 Days for Life in Waco during the very first coordinated campaign in 2007.

Aine Fitzgerald (above, left), who is co-leading the current campaign, encouraged people to continue coming out to pray on abortion days after the campaign.

Planned Parenthood flies in a doctor from Massachusetts to abort babies in Waco. “The local media coverage has been great,” Aine said. “We were on the front page … and that has drawn a lot of attention to abortion being back in Waco.”

image

Earlier this campaign, we sent a beautiful story of a mom who chose life.

That’s just one example of how God is using the campaign to save lives – and get Planned Parenthood out of Waco forever.

Santa Cruz, California

This is the 15th campaign for 40 Days for Life in Santa Cruz … and the volunteers are seeing a significant impact as a result of their prayer and witness.

For starters, the number of surgical abortions went on a steep decline, from around 40 per month to 8 or fewer. And now, surgical abortions are no longer taking place – only chemical abortions. Clients are referred to other locations for surgical abortions.

The local team isn’t sure if this is a permanent change – but they’re praying it will be. They’re also helping to publicize abortion pill reversals in light of the changes at the abortion facility.

As for the vigil itself, participation continues to grow, with new churches and more first-time volunteers joining the campaign.

image

Ventura, California

Volunteers prayed while a mother of four – pregnant with her fifth child – drove into Planned Parenthood.

They were afraid she was about to make the biggest mistake of her life.

But then she saw a man on the sidewalk holding a cross.

She left Planned Parenthood and got into a car with people who had come to pick her up – but not until she stopped to share the good news that she would not be going through with the abortion.

“If we can save one baby’s life,” said George in Ventura, “there’s rejoicing in heaven! Keep coming out to pray!”

The dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it. She gave birth to a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne.

— Revelation 12:4-5 3

O God, from generation to generation, you have called your people to be the very aroma of life amidst a culture of death. Now it is our turn. Prepare me. Send me. Use me. I am eager to do my part. Stir your people everywhere to take up this great work.

The abortion industry is losing ground at the local level … and they’re lashing out.

Abortion advocates are now in the middle of an all-out effort to shut down compassionate – and highly-effective – medical pregnancy help centers.

For years, we have worked closely with pregnancy help centers to save lives. And the abortion industry is not happy.

So, extreme pro-abortion forces are bad-mouthing pregnancy help centers, calling them “fake clinics” and claiming these centers lie to women.

(Among the messengers are members of a group called the Lady Parts Justice League – seriously, I’m not making that up; but I wish I were.)

Desperation tactics? You bet.

Their arguments fall flat in the face of the truth. Pregnancy Help News reports that 99 percent of pregnancy center clients say they had a positive experience … showing again how pro-life counseling is a huge threat to Big Abortion.

Show your support and defend these great ministries by leaving a positive review online. It will help guarantee failure for the abortion industry’s latest “expose fake clinics” campaign!

You can learn more about “expose fake clinics” on this edition of the 40 Days for Life podcast:

United Kingdom

Pro-life groups in the United Kingdom have declared today a national day of prayer and fasting. On this date in 1967, the abortion act passed, legalizing abortion in Great Britain.

“As we have seen 8.9 million babies’ lives lost in this country since the abortion act was passed, it is vitally important that we all do our bit,” said Stuart McCullough of the Good Counsel Network, which works closely with 40 Days for Life in the London area.

Even 50 years of legal abortion isn’t good enough for some in England. An effort is underway to create buffer zones around abortion facilities that would stifle all pro-life outreach.

Media postings are encouraging the effort, with headlines such as “Time to move anti-abortion protests out of women’s way.”

But Clare McCullough, who has led 40 Days for Life vigils in London, says the only commotion around the abortion centers is created by pro-abortion protesters.

“The typical pro-life witness consists of three people, one praying and perhaps two handing out leaflets,” she said. The pro-abortion side “created the incident, and they’re blaming us.”

image

Ontario, Canada

Pro-life groups in Canada’s largest province are promising to challenge a new law the provincial legislature just approved.

It bans practically any pro-life activity within 50 meters of an abortion facility … which could certainly have an adverse impact on 40 Days for Life. There are currently nine 40 Days for Life vigils in Ontario.

Among other things, the buffer zone bill prohibits advising a person not to get an abortion.

There is concern that the simple act of praying on the sidewalk could be punished by six months in jail and a $5,000 fine.

According to Jim Hughes of Canada’s Campaign Life Coalition, “This law is the first step in silencing and criminalizing speech that is not the official opinion of the state.”

Please keep our Ontario campaigns in your prayers.

Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.

—Psalm 139:16

Gracious God, help us to appreciate the wonder and beauty of Your creation. Help us proclaim on behalf of every one of our fellow human beings, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” May the knowledge that we are intimately known by You shape our lives and actions.

I received a question from Josephine about this message. “I wonder what it means … ‘be prayer’?”

This is a very good question. Our Lady has said it to us several times. My first response was, “I wonder if it means that we begin to pray so very much, from our heart, all the time, that prayer becomes the basis of who we are. “

This would mean that prayer becomes part of the definition of who I am. I am someone who is constantly oriented towards God. My whole being is seeking God. My every thought is somehow referenced to God and His will, His love, His being. I am focused on God. And finally, I love God with my whole heart, my whole soul, my whole mind and my whole strength.

Our Lady said it this way on August 25, 2015:

“Dear children! Also today I am calling you to be prayer. May prayer be for you the wings for an encounter with God. The world is in a moment of trial, because it forgot and abandoned God. Therefore, you, little children, be those who seek and love God above all. I am with you and I am leading you to my Son, but you must say your ‘yes’ in the freedom of children of God. I intercede for you and I love you, little children, with an endless love. Thank you for having responded to my call.” (August 25, 2015)

At this moment of trial for the whole world, we must “be those who seek and love God above all.” That is being prayer. May we respond to Our Lady’s call and help her to pull the world back from the brink of disaster, back into the arms of her Son.

Sharing God’s mercy with a post-abortive woman

abortion clinics, abortion, fetal models, fetuses, unborn babies

Fetal models from the first trimester of pregnancy.

As we enter the last two weeks of the international 40 Days for Life, 287 babies have already been saved from abortion. Find your nearest 40 Days for Life location and sign up, help women and save lives.

A young woman rolled down her window at 2322 Butano Drive, the location of our Sacramento 40 Days for Life. She reached out to take the packet of information, which includes details about Alternatives Pregnancy Center and the Sacramento Life Center.

I showed her the Fetal Models, which convey the exact size and development of a baby at 7-10 weeks of pregnancy. She teared up…  “Oh how I wish someone had been here when I had my abortion. I wouldn’t have done it.”

I held her hand to comfort her. We prayed together through her tears, gently conveying God’s message of mercy, grace, love, and forgiveness to a contrite young heart. I gave her information about post-abortion healing programs and a Precious Feet Pin so that she would have something by which to remember her baby.

She is now equipped to share her “I-would-never-do-that-again” message with her friends and family members who may come to her for advice about an unexpected pregnancy. Saving lives, helping the needy and consoling the hurting are why we are there. Just this week, studies show the US abortion rate has dropped 25% from 2008-2014!
