My name is Alejandrina and I live in Peru. Despite the distance that divides us, you have had a huge impact on my life and the life of my son, Raul, and this is our thank you.
Twelve years ago I was pregnant with twin boys. It was my fourth pregnancy and everything was going well. But several weeks before my due date I went into labor. One of my babies died immediately and shortly after, my son Raul was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy (CP).
I was terrified. My husband blamed me for Raul’s disability and left us.* I was grieving the loss of a child, an end of a marriage and adapting to life as a single mother with a child who had a severe disability.
Before I met the CMMB therapists at Rehabilitation with Hope, Raul spent all day curled up in a ball in his crib. I didn’t know what to do so I did nothing.
But then the therapy team started working with him, and now, 5 years later, Raul is sitting up and can use his hands. Every day is a challenge, but I hope that with continued support, he will learn to walk, talk and do things on his own.
Thanks for helping bring a smile to his face and for helping me to have a relationship with my beautiful son.
P.S. You can help ensure that children like Raul get the healthcare interventions they need to reach their God given potentials. Give in the next 48 hours and we will double your gift. Imagine the moms and children you can help!
* Approximately 65% of the fathers from families who have children with disabilities that work with CMMB abandon the family.
