Planned Parenthood has long sought to control population via invasive and dangerous IUDs and contraceptive implants, but the high cost of long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) safeguarded most young girls and women. In addition, horror stories about bad experiences with IUDs and contraceptive implants are so common that most women are leery of them. In fact, in 2009, only 8.5 percent of contracepting women and girls used LARC. Planned Parenthood is on a mission to change that.
