Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues

Dear Friends For Life,

Divorce Ring

This week I would like to introduce to you an interesting new DVD series: The Catholic’s Divorce Survival Guide.

First, let me emphasize that there is no such thing as a “Catholic divorce”. But, in our broken, sinful world, divorce happens all too often. It is estimated that nearly one in every two marriages ends in divorce, and Christian marriages are not immune from these troubling statistics. Divorce has likely touched all of us in one way or another as we help friends and family members through the grieving process. We may have divorced parents, siblings, children, neighbors or close friends – or may have even been through that process ourselves.
Divorce takes a family and literally rips it in half. Because of its radical disruption of families, its far-reaching ramifications for society, and the deep, painful wounds it creates, many churches have recognized that ministering to divorced men and women is a priority. But what about a Catholic approach to healing from divorce?

There is a resource specifically for Catholics who are healing from divorce, and it is available for individual use. Even though it is a bit expensive, Pastoral related groups may benefit. Check the following website for more information.

God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

(The Difference is LIFE) “Human progress planned as alternatives (to God’s plan) introduce injustice, evil and violence rising against the divine plan of justice and salvation. And despite transitory and apparent successes, they are reduced to simple machinations destined to dissolution and failure.” -Pope John Paul II

(Birth Control): “Share the Facts” –  Melinda Gates and her partners, including the British government and the world’s largest abortion providers, have launched a $4 billion campaign to push birth control onto poor women in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Ms. Gates claims that there is “no controversy” in powerful groups and governments promoting birth control for poor women, but check the facts for yourself.

ITEM #1: Spousal Love in Conjugal Spirituality

While Catholic marriages are built upon a common theological foundation, each couple’s spirituality may emphasize certain aspects of their vocation to which they are particularly drawn, and in which they can live quite well. This paper explores perspectives of conjugal spirituality that cultivate reverence for, and understanding of, spousal love.

ITEM #2: The Stampede: Human Trafficking

Victims of human trafficking are often beaten, starved and forced to work. They are usually kidnapped; taken away from their loved ones since it is as a matter of fact illegal in the United States. On average, the age range, worldwide, for a victim to be sold is from 18-24 years old. Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking says about 2.5 million people are in forced labor worldwide and half of them are in Asia.

ITEM #3: Japan Shrinks

Many nations have aging populations, but none can quite match Japan. Its experience holds lessons for other countries as well as insights into the distinctiveness of Japanese society.

****************************************

ITEM #4: Girl violence and the parent gap

Violence among teenage girls – towards each other, towards strangers – is a growing problem in many countries. A US survey a few years ago of more than 33,000 girls aged 12 to 17 found that 26.7 percent had been involved in a serious fight at school or work, a group-against-group fight or had attacked someone with the intent to harm the person in the previous year.

****************************************

ITEM #5: Very premature births linked to multiple abortions

A link between induced abortion and premature births – and associated health complications – is supported by a new study from Finland. The more abortions a woman has had before giving birth, the more likely she is to give birth prematurely, the BBC reports.

****************************************

ITEM #6: Hippocrates’ Last Stand

In 2012, Roe v. Wade is happening again, this time on the subject of doctor-prescribed suicide. As yet there is no court case, but the machinations to prepare the way for such a case have already begun.

****************************************

ITEM #7 AIDS and medical ethics: a great betrayal

The September 5th edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) reports on the prospect of “pre-exposure prophylaxis” as a means of preventing HIV transmission.

****************************************

ITEM #8: What is Love?

Love is looking for the good news in the other, leading to the acceptance of the other as a lovable self, giving rise to the desire to be with the other and to do good for the other, giving rise to a unity with the other, whereby it is just as easy (if not easier) to do good for the other as to do it for self, which yields mutual acceptance, shared being and doing, and interpersonal unity.

****************************************

ITEM #9: Waiting till the wedding night – getting married the right way

Our wedding was perfect. Our wedding night was nothing short of amazing. I write this on a plane heading into a tropical paradise with the most beautiful woman to have walked the planet earth.

****************************************

ITEM #10: Calling Evil Good: How Many People Do You Have to Kill Before It’s Wrong?

The reasoning people who advocate euthanasia use to arrive at their conclusions amazes me. They construct their arguments on a base of fantasy and inaccurate assumptions and then lard on a thick layer of wishful thinking. Such a combination of callow naiveté and confabulation might be touching in a three year old child, but when it comes from adults who are advocating legalized murder, it takes on darker tones.

****************************************

ITEM #11: UK: Schools Put Contraceptive Implants in Teens, No Parental Consent

School nurses have given implants or jabs to girls aged between 13 and 16 more than 900 times in the past two years, a survey by The Daily Telegraph has found. Girls aged 13 have been given contraceptive jabs and implants on more than 20 occasions. A further 7,400 girls aged 15 and under have been given contraceptive injections or implants at family planning clinics.

****************************************ITEM #12: The freedom to marry: a liberal value that conservatives should shun

A few months ago, a new group launched called “Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry.” This is a group sponsored by a larger organization called “Freedom to Marry.” The objective of these groups is to promote gay marriage.
