A “reproductive health” bill that would mandate sex education in schools and subsidize contraceptives will be “tragic and catastrophic” for Filipinos if it is passed into law, the Philippines’ Catholic bishops said.

  • We do not pray to a remote ‘cosmic god’, says Pope at morning Mass
Christians do not pray to a remote “cosmic god” but to the God who is our Father, Pope Francis said at Mass this morning. Commenting on today’s Gospel reading, in which Jesus teaches his disciples to pray the Our Father, the Pope said: “To whom do I pray? To the Almighty God? He is too far off. Ah, I can’t hear Him. Neither did Jesus. To whom do I pray? To a […]
  • Pope at Mass: How to pray the Our Father
(Vatican Radio) To pray the Our Father we have to have a heart at peace with our brothers. We don't pray "my Father," but "our Father," because "we are not an only child, none of us are”. This was the focus of Pope Francis' homily at Mass Thursday morning in Casa Santa Marta. The Pope emphasized that we believe in a God who […]
  • The Holy Father says he is too ‘disorganised’ to reform the Roman Curia. But the corruption has to be driven out. What he needs is a Godly hit man
After a meeting earlier this month of the presiding board of the the Latin American and Caribbean Confederation of Religious Men and Women (CLAR), a transcript of the Pope’s words was made by those present; a translation can be found here.
  • Pope to FAO: More must be done to end scandal of starvation
(Vatican Radio) “Something more can and must be done” for the millions of people who are “still suffering and dying of starvation”, something which is “truly scandalous” in this day and age.
  • Lefties now pushing for drug dealers to be let off the hook
We’re quite used to hearing the liberal establishment make frivolous arguments for the legalization of drug uses, but now they even want the dealers to be excused. They call it a “disease”. Drug addiction could arguably be called a disease that requires aggressive treatment, but drug dealing? Seriously? Do they not see how ridiculous their position is? […]

Milan, Italy, Jun 20, 2013 / 04:01 am (CNA/EWTN News).- At a conference of interfaith leaders in Milan, Cardinal John O. Onaiyekan suggested that Islamist violence in his country of Nigeria, as well as in Syria, has been fueled by external influences. “Outside funding for Islam in Nigeria is nothing new,” the archbishop of Abuja remarked June 17 at the tenth […]

  • How Catholics Can Still Achieve Great Things
I gratefully rely on Arts & Letters Daily to winnow through the dross to find genuinely interesting pieces from journals, blogs, and zines for which I have neither time nor inclination to search. Yet, I must admit I would have been happier for the site to not inform me about the so-called “Bling Ring” and the movie, television show, and magazine pieces e […]

  • Pelosi’s Support of Abortion Tells Larger Story
It’s hardly news to faithful Catholics that the Democratic Party is the evil party for championing abortion and sodomy. Yet it’s even worse. To further satisfy their Machiavellian hunger for power, Democrat elected representatives and officials in the executive branch have sacrificed American sovereignty by refusing to uphold immigration laws. By increasing […]

Psalm 93 [Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition]

1 The Lord is the God to whom revenge belongeth: the God of revenge hath acted freely. 2 Lift up thyself, thou that judgest the earth: render a reward to the proud. 3 How long shall sinners, O Lord: how long shall sinners glory? 4 Shall they utter, and speak iniquity: shall all speak who work injustice? 5 Thy people, O Lord, they have brought low: and they have afflicted thy inheritance. 6 They have slain the widow and the stranger: and they have murdered the fatherless. 7 And they have said: The Lord shall not see: neither shall the God of Jacob understand. 8 Understand, ye senseless among the people: and, you fools, be wise at last. 9 He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? or he that formed the eye, doth he not consider? 10 He that chastiseth nations, shall he not rebuke: he that teacheth man knowledge? 11 The Lord knoweth the thoughts of men, that they are vain. 12 Blessed is the man whom thou shalt instruct, O Lord: and shalt teach him out of thy law. 13 That thou mayst give him rest from the evil days: till a pit be dug for the wicked. 14 For the Lord will not cast off his people: neither will he forsake his own inheritance. 15 Until justice be turned into judgment: and they that are near it are all the upright in heart. 16 Who shall rise up for me against the evildoers? or who shall stand with me against the workers of iniquity? 17 Unless the Lord had been my helper, my soul had almost dwelt in hell. 18 If I said: My foot is moved: thy mercy, O Lord, assisted me. 19 According to the multitude of my sorrows in my heart, thy comforts have given joy to my soul. 20 Doth the seat of iniquity stick to thee, who framest labour in commandment? 21 They will hunt after the soul of the just, and will condemn innocent blood. 22 But the Lord is my refuge: and my God the help of my hope. 23 And he will render them their iniquity: and in their malice he will destroy them: the Lord our God will destroy them.
