House Panel OKs Bill to Stop Unlimited Abortions in Nation s Capital
A U.S. House committee approved a bill today that would stop the policy of unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy for any reason in the nation s capital.

The Judiciary Committee backed the District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 3803), which would end the current legal policy in the nation s capital, where abortion is currently legal for any reason until the moment of birth. The committee voted 18-14 for the bill, which would make abortion impermissible in the federal District after 22 weeks of pregnancy (22 weeks LMP, equivalent to 20 weeks fetal age), unless necessary to prevent the death of the mother. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/18/house-panel-oks-bill-to-stop-unlimited-abortions-in-nations-capital/

House Cmte OKs Bill to De-Fund Planned Parenthood, Protect Conscience
Republicans in the U.S. House were able to secure passage of a government-funding bill that de-funds the Planned Parenthood abortion business and protects conscience rights. The Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee approved their FY13 spending bill today.

During consideration, pro-life Republicans on the panel turned back two pro-abortion amendments from Democrats. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/18/house-cmte-oks-bill-to-de-fund-planned-parenthood-protect-conscience/

FRC President Urges Romney to Pick Pro-Life Vice-President
In a private meeting with Mitt Romney, a pro-life leader urged the Republican presidential candidate to select a vice-presidential running mate who shares his views against abortion.

Family Research Council president Tony Perkins spent time with Romney yesterday in Louisiana, where Romney himself spent time with potential running mate and pro-lie Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. There, Perkins urged Romney to select a pro-life running mate to help him take on the pro-abortion ticket of President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/17/house-committee-to-vote-wednesday-on-20-week-abortion-ban/

Romney Takes on Obama Mandate: We re All Catholic Today
In a well-received speech in Ohio today, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney took on the Obama mandate that has come under heavy opposition from pro-life and religious groups. The mandate has been panned because it forces employers to pay for and refer women for abortion-inducing drugs, birth control and contraception.

Romney s comments come at about 6:51 in the following video. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/18/romney-takes-on-obama-mandate-were-all-catholic-today/

Catholic Colleges May Avoid Obama HHS Mandate for One Year
Catholic colleges worrying about running afoul of the new Obama HHS mandate that requires payment and referral for abortion-causing drugs and birth control in their health care plans may be able to take advantage of a one-year reprieve.

Although the details are sketchy, the Cardinal Newman Society, a Catholic educational watchdog group, says there may be a way to avoid the massive penalties for not complying with the Obama HHS mandate. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/18/catholic-colleges-may-avoid-obama-hhs-mandate-for-one-year/

Top Evangelical College Files Lawsuit Against Obama HHS Mandate
One of the nation s top evangelical colleges has filed a lawsuit opposing the Health and Human Services mandate that forces religious institutions to pay for and refer women for abortion-causing drugs, birth control and contraception.

Wheaton College of Wheaton, Illinois joins many other educational institutions in arguing against the controversial mandate, which requires religious employers to either violate their religious beliefs or pay fines. Evangelical liberal arts institution Colorado Christian University is also suing on religious liberty grounds, alongside Catholic Belmont Abbey College and Ave Maria University. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/18/top-evangelical-college-files-lawsuit-against-obama-hhs-mandate/

Tree-Huggers Want Tree Saved at Hospital That Does Abortions
This isn t a philosophical post about tree huggers who are pro-choice, it s a real one. Last week I read this article about protesters at West Hills Hospital in the San Fernando Valley region of California who say that a diseased tree in the front of the hospital needs treatment from an arborist for its infection, not to be chopped down. They cite the hospital s current remodel job that seems conveniently timed to remove the tree so they can make room for expansion.

Battle Against Obama HHS Mandate Continues Despite Judge s Ruling
An attorney with one of the leading pro-life legal groups battling the Obama HHS mandate is encouraging pro-life advocates not to give up fighting it, even though one federal judge has dismissed the lawsuit states filed against it. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/18/battle-against-obama-hhs-mandate-continues-despite-judges-ruling/

Why Do Abortion Advocates Hate Ultrasound Pictures?
Recently, I was going through an old box and found a picture of my father. As I held it in my hands, I remembered his life, and it was amazing how many emotions the picture communicated. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/18/why-do-abortion-advocates-hate-ultrasound-pictures/

Rick Santorum: Romney Must Choose a Pro-Life Running Mate
In a new interview, former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum says Mitt Romney should select a pro-life running mate. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/18/rick-santorum-romney-must-choose-a-pro-life-running-mate/

New Zealand to United Nations: No We Won t Expand Abortions
During the CEDAW Committee s review of New Zealand this afternoon, the country s delegate stated that the New Zealand government has no interest in expanding its abortion laws. This was in response to being told twice that the country needs to modernize its abortion laws. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/18/new-zealand-to-united-nations-no-we-wont-expand-abortions/

Are Pro-Lifers Guilty of Silent Racism, Prejudice?
Before diving into a topic that s likely to ruffle a few feathers, I think it best to break the ice with a bit of humor. My family and I were enjoying a splash park with friends one steamy summer afternoon. The sun was high and sweltering as we huddled under our umbrella and allowed our lunch to settle. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/18/are-pro-lifers-guilty-of-silent-racism-prejudice/

76 Pages of Health Code Violations, But Abortion Clinic s Decor is Nice
Mississippi s only abortion clinic is allowed to stay open for now, and The Daily Beast ran an interview to introduce their readers to the woman who runs the clinic, Diane Derzis. We are told that she likes thrillers, has a smoker s laugh, and is apparently a fabulous decorator. Her numerous patient safety violations? No mention. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/18/76-pages-of-health-code-violations-but-abortion-clinics-decor-is-nice/

Philadelphia Hospital Merger Dies After Abortion Stoppage Complaints
How discouraging it was to see the news this afternoon. Abington and Holy Redeemer health systems in eastern Pennsylvania canceled their plans to create a new partner health system. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/18/philadelphia-hospital-merger-dies-after-abortion-stoppage-complaints/

Moms and Babies to Tell Congress About Pregnancy Centers
Women who received support from pregnancy help centers and rejected abortion are bringing their children to meet with U.S. lawmakers as part of Heartbeat s Babies Go to Congress campaign tomorrow. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/18/moms-and-babies-to-tell-congress-about-pregnancy-centers/

Book Review: The Singularity is Near, A Transhumanist Manifesto
So I finally did it. I sat down and read The Singularity is Near by Ray Kurzweil. And while many question Kurzweil s calculations, and his unbounded optimism about the technology of the future, The Singularity is Near is possibly the closest thing to a transhumanist manifesto as you can find. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/18/book-review-the-singularity-is-near-a-transhumanist-manifesto/
