Pro-Lifers: Pro-Abortion Views Disqualify Condi Rice as Romney VP
Media speculation on the person Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will select as his vice-presidential running mate reached a fever pitch today with media outlets, led by the Drudge Report, guessing it will be Bush defense official Condoleezza Rice.

However, pro-life advocates would reject the selection because Rice has continuously defended her stance supporting legal abortions. Rice has said that abortion should be as rare a circumstance as possible, but added that government should not interfere, according to a Washington Times interview. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/13/pro-lifers-pro-abortion-views-disqualify-condi-rice-as-romney-vp/

Romney Pro-Life VP Pledge Would Preclude Condoleezza Rice
Although the media speculation today, led by the Drudge Report, points to Condoleezza Rice as the frontrunner among the various elected officials and political leaders Mitt Romney may consider as VP, a pledge he made makes that look unlikely.

Ultimately, Romney will not likely select Rice as his running mate, despite the media hoopla today as he has pledged to select a pro-life running mate.

During a 2011 presidential candidate forum in South Carolina, Romney made a pledge to only select a running mate who hared his pro-life views on abortion. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/13/romney-pro-life-vp-pledge-would-preclude-condoleezza-rice/

Obama 11th-Hour Attack on Romney May Involve False Abortion Story
With millions of pro-life voters up in arms about President Barack Obama s lengthy pro-abortion record and pro-life groups backing Mitt Romney as a pro-life contrast to him, the 2012 election has already become an ideological one that will likely be won by the candidate with the best voter turnout of his base.

However, if Obama can somehow erode their confidence in him to promote the pro-life perspective as president that could suppress turnout of social conservative voters.

Canada Appeals Decision Striking Law Banning Assisted Suicide
Canadian officials have appealed the decision by a British Columbia judge striking down the nation s prohibition on assisted suicide.

The British Columbia Supreme Court, in June, issued an opinion declaring the law in Canada against assisted suicides unconstitutional. Justice Lynn Smith issued a 395-page ruling calling the law discriminatory in the case of Gloria Taylor, a British Columbia woman with ALS, or Lou Gehrig s disease. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/13/canada-appeals-decision-striking-law-banning-assisted-suicide/

2012 Saw Second-Most Pro-Life Laws Passed, Following 2011
The Guttmacher Institute recently released a report which found that states enacted 39 abortion restrictions in 2012. This means that 2012 was the second-most productive year in terms of the number of pro-life bills that were passed. The only year that was more productive was 2011, which saw the enactment of 80 pieces of pro-life legislation.

Now some of these pro-life measures have been largely defensive in nature. Four states (Alabama, South Carolina, South Dakota, Wisconsin) moved to limit coverage of abortion in the health-insurance exchanges that will be established as part of the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Technological developments prompted three states (Arizona, Oklahoma, Tennessee) to ban the use of telemedicine for the provision of abortion medication. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/13/2012-saw-second-most-pro-life-laws-past-following-2011/

Teen Murdered After Rejecting Boyfriend s Abortion Request
The parents of a teenage girl killed by her boyfriend say they know the reason why the young man took their daughter s life: she requested his entreaties to get an abortion.

Hawa Gabbidon was almost two months pregnant when Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police found the body of the 17-year-old girl Tuesday morning thanks to a tip from a group of people cutting through the wood to get to a local community center. However, no one seems to know the identity of her boyfriend and police are seeking the public s help for clues. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/13/teen-murdered-after-rejecting-boyfriends-abortion-request/

Pro-Life Efforts Must Include the Beginning and End of Life
In nations where socialized medicine has been in force for some time, the elderly and infirm are being sacrificed (killed) for the comfort of the young and healthy. And with the Supreme Court s recent decision to uphold socialized medicine in America via ObamaCare, there is justifiable concern that the elderly and infirm may eventually face the same fate here in America.

And, no, this is not a scare tactic.

Arizona Law Banning Abortions After 20 Weeks Faces Lawsuit
A new Arizona law pro-life Gov. Jan Brewer signed to ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy now faces a lawsuit from the ACLU seeking to overturn it in court. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/13/arizona-law-banning-abortions-after-20-weeks-faces-lawsuit/

Abortion Advocates Continue Attacking Baltimore Pregnancy Centers
Abortion advocates are unhappy that an initial decision from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit said a law attacking pregnancy centers in Maryland was unconstitutional. They have asked the full appeals court to review the decision. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/13/abortion-advocates-continue-attacking-baltimore-pregnancy-centers/

130K Deaths on Liverpool Care Pathway Not Necessarily Euthanasia
The Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph this week have run a story claiming that the NHS kills off a 130,000 elderly patients every year through use of a death pathway . http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/13/130k-deaths-on-liverpool-care-pathway-not-necessarily-euthanasia/

Texas Forcing Taxpayers to Fund Secret Abortions on Minors
Current Texas law calls for Texas taxpayers to fund secret abortions for pregnant minors. A loophole in the state s parental consent laws allows judges to authorize pregnant minors to undergo an abortion without parental involvement or permission. This loophole fosters abuse of the legal process established to protect minors and strengthen Texas families. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/13/texas-forcing-taxpayers-to-fund-secret-abortions-on-minors/

Decision to End Abortions May Stop Philly Hospital Merger
Recently, an eastern Pennsylvania health system announced plans to stop offering abortions once it merges with a Catholic health system next year. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/07/13/decision-to-end-abortions-may-stop-philly-hospital-merger/
